NBA Star Delonte West Arrested on Weapons Charges(Carrying 3 Guns)
Source: Washington Post

An NBA star and former area high school player was pulled over and arrested in Prince George's County on Thursday night after a police officer found he was carrying three loaded guns, authorities said.

Delonte West, a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was driving a three-wheeled motorcycle north on Interstate 95 near Route 214 in the Largo area when he cut off a Prince George's County police officer, authorities said. The officer pulled him over, and West told the officer that he was carrying a handgun in his waistband.

That prompted the officer to call for backup, and investigators found that West was actually carrying three guns: a Beretta 9mm in his waistband, a Ruger .357 strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, said Maj. Andy Ellis, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.

West, who is 26 and lives in Brandywine, was arrested and charged with speeding and two counts of carrying a handgun, Ellis said. He was released today on personal recognizance, according to Ellis and online court records.

Ellis said it was unclear where West was going and why he was armed.

2. How stupid do you have to be?
First off, to EVER carry a firearm in the waistband of your pants. Anything, for any reason. Holsters were created for a specific reason. Second, it's no secret that in "shall issue" states like Maryland concealed carry permits are always easier to get for the rich and famous, a group an NBA star belongs in. He could probably have just asked a favor and gotten a permit faster than hell by giving a few signatures or a photo with the sheriff's kid. Now he's facing criminal charges because he was too lazy to think the rules applied to him. Idiot.

20. MD is "may issue" not "shall issue" - I think you mixed them up
as the rest of your post describes the relative ease that rich/powerful have in getting CWP's in MD which is what happens in may issue states.

32. Dammit. Yes, I meant "may issue," not "shall issue."
I know this, as I live in a "may issue" state myself where there've been loads of cases of the right and powerful getting carry permits (particularly in New York City, where basically no one gets a carry permit other than ex cops and the elites).

4. I'm sure Delonte West will face a very long suspension after it's all said and done.
I would think that West would earn an immediate suspension pending the outcome of the case.

It's only fair because my guy, JR Smith spent 90 days in jail, and NBA handed down an 8 game suspension.

He was driving the new Can-Am Spyder where the 2 wheels are in the front.

This is a photo of the model of motorcycle, a Can-Am Spyder three-wheeler, Delonte West was riding when he was stopped Thursday night, according to police reports.

39. That can be yours for $20 - 30 thousand
plus the 400 dollar stamp and an ffl fee. They are out there but class 3 stuff is a very expensive hobby. Dont let the link fool you, it would take 6 months and a federal background to get one. Depending on where you live.

11. Not in Maryland - they are fairly restrictive on gun laws
Maryland is not a traditional open carry state. However, should you be wealthy or connected enough to get one of the rare Maryland carry permits, Maryland law makes no distinction between open and concealed carry. But this would almost certainly result in the loss of the permit. We consider Maryland to be one of the top 5 rights restricted states in the union.

13. They need to start telling these guys they can buy the permits,
the process to get a permit in NYC and SOCAL can be swayed with cash donations and leverage. He would probably need a white lawyer to bend the process for him, since he is buying discretion. And that tends to single out minorities, he may have had to pay a bit more.. There is not excuse for a wealthy american who can afford to buy his rights with "donations" not to do so. Plaxico would have been perfectly legal, he just needed an IWB holster.

22. Yeah that always ticked me off in gun restrictive places
That a carry license could be bought by the rich and powerful. If you're going to have a carry license in a state or locality then it should be "shall issue" to anyone with a clean record and no mental health problems.

31. Agree to a point - (see my post #20 above), but MD is very strict
and you have to show that you have been threatened with serious bodily harm and there has to be a significant likelihood of further action and/or carry large amounts of cash in the course of business. Just an FYI, spouses who have protective orders against their spouse who assaulted them do not have the right to a CWP for that reason alone. The easiest way to be able to get one is to be a pharmacist. Dr. next and family law attorney probably third.

Where the EFF was he going that he thought he'd need 2 handguns and a shotgun? And, if he thought he needed them, why the EFF would he be going there at all?!

Does the crazy come before or after buying a gun?

people wrote whole books about how to survive them. He had his shotgun, and two backup weapons. Including a revolver in a magnum offering (+1). All he needed was a crowbar and he would be all set for half life..
