Pa. lawmaker sees gay agenda in a resolution(Domestic Violence Awareness Month)
Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

HARRISBURG - The state House of Representatives churns out uncontroversial resolutions every week to commemorate the dead, honor people's achievements, raise awareness of health issues, and recognize things important to Pennsylvania, such as pretzels.

So it took many people by surprise when a resolution designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month was derailed Wednesday by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R., Butler), who claimed it "had a homosexual agenda."

The Western Pennsylvania legislator said he detected that agenda in this phrase: "one in six women and one in 33 men have experienced an attempted or completed rape."

Metcalfe's objection, which under House rules meant the bill was sent back to committee, mystified the bill's sponsor and angered groups that advocate for victims of domestic violence and for gay rights.

"His comments show incredible insensitivity about what domestic violence is, combined with bigotry against lesbians, gays, bisexual, and transgendered people," said Michael Morrill, executive director of Keystone Progress, an advocacy group in Harrisburg.

1. He's also loaded down with ignorance...
Add that to the insensitivity and bigotry, and he's got the Trifecta. Idiot.

2. It's becoming sport in the US to rip individuals, groups, whatever apart.
The republican party is so far out of control... I read the news each day wondering what's next... It's becoming so disgusting. I think the agenda of the republican party now is to simply outright destroy the country.

7. Where's Michael Vick when you need him
Instead of sending him to jail, he could have been rehabilitated into holding Republican fights. Put two Republicans in a cage and tell each one that the other one is more liberal. You'd make a fortune on pay-per-view!

3. Ok.... so men getting raped = sign of progay agenda to this nut?
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 07:58 PM by ShadowLiberal
Or does any rape equal a progay agenda to this congressman?

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Seriously, you can read a lot of bad of things into that part of the resolution he objects to that don't look too good for that congressman.

4. Let's get something completely straight...
This guy does NOT see a homosexual agenda in his bill. He's making that up, so he doesn't have
to explain the real reason he opposes any bill against domestic violence.

The truth is...there are psychopaths and misogynists running around the halls of Congress. That's
a given--and all we have to look at is the warmongering, torture and corruption that has happened. Some
of these pathological law makers are powerful men who feel that women are inferior. They want to control women's
bodies and they feel that men should be able to control women--as they see fit. They are against empowering women
and any legislation that would control any action of a man, as it relates to their treatment of women.

I bet this guy is also a staunch pro lifer, and I bet his voting record shows shows support of many bills that
reflect his pathology.

...health insurance companies refusing to cover victims of domestic violence with the bullshit excuse that the getting the stuffing beaten out of them was a preexisting condition.

15. Is the "homophobic therefore gay" meme really necessary?
Much as I'm amused at the irony of attacking a homophobic legislator by suggesting he's gay...

12. Metcalfe=hypocrite, AND conspiracy theorist
Geez, why do the anti-gay right wing have to cry "gay agenda! gay agenda!" EVERY single time that someone introduces an innocent proposal to curb hate or domestic violence?

Oh yeah, don't forget this very philosophical quote by Phyllis Schlafly: "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape."

run around until you get locked up in an institution. wtf is wrong with these people?

hope they use that against him

Daryl Metcalfe doesn't believe that domestic violence is a bad thing, why does Mr. Metcalfe encourage violence and traumatised children?
