Obama: Family 'will stand in line like everybody else' for vaccine
Posted: September 20th, 2009 09:04 AM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The nation's first family will not get any special dispensation when it comes to the much awaited vaccine for the H1N1 virus, President Obama tells CNN.

Asked about plans for his family's health in an interview that airs Sunday on CNN's State of the Union, the president said he intends to consult with his Health and Human Services Secretary and the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"And whatever they tell me to do, I will do," Obama told CNN Chief National Correspondent John King.

"Here's what I guarantee you," Obama also told King, "We want to get vaccinated. We think it's the right thing to do. We will stand in line like everybody else. And when folks say it's our turn, that's when we'll get it."

6. Considering it may make you sick, I wouldn't want to be first in line either.
The President will protect his own family with advice from the very best experts. I am sure the President will pass along their advice to the rest of us, no?

sound like a comforting thing. "The President isn't going to the front of the line, he's gonna wait his turn....and see if and how many people drop like flies." :yoiks:

9. I disagree with this position
I'd like everyone who comes in direct contact with the President to be vaccinated, as well as him. He doesn't need a case of a flu that is particularly nasty on healthier individuals.

Besides, there will be all kinds of reich wing propaganda about the vaccine, his rolling up his sleeve and getting his flu shot in front of the nation will dispel that.

17. I don't.
It's a great photo op. He could get it and have it take 2 minutes, or he can take an hour or so, stand in line, inconvenience lots of people and run up a security bill in exchange for having lots of photographs of him being a "commoner" and subjected to the adulation of commoners.

If anybody says it's a political act, he has instant cover: The publicity isn't for him, but to (a) make a point about health care in the US, (b) show that he's comfortable with the vaccine, and (c) draw attention to the importance of receiving the vaccine. That also covers having his family used as political props--it's for a good cause, so obviously you can't criticize them and they're still out-of-bounds for criticism.

Granted, it may not happen. He may show that he listens to his advisors and makes sound, informed judgments that temper rash decisions, and back off his plans. Even if his heart truly is gold and in the right place.

Win-win-win, with the opponents either coming up with 0 or going in negative territory. Every politician's dream scenario.

16. Silliness..
If President Obama would like us to believe he is of the people,he ought to Veto any health care without Public option, and start over with Single payer.I would never expect The President or first family to stand in line like everyone else for a flu shot. This is silly.
