Moore Screens Film for Fundraiser

BELLAIRE, Mich. -- Filmmaker Michael Moore gave residents of his adopted Michigan community an early showing of his new documentary on Saturday and urged them to help overthrow an economic system he said was beyond redemption.

More than 500 people crowded into a theater in Bellaire to see "Capitalism: A Love Story," a film based on the premise that greed and corruption have subverted U.S. democracy.

"I know what's in front of me these next weeks and months," Moore told one audience, anticipating withering criticism from conservative politicians and commentators, then added with a laugh: "That's why I wanted to watch this with you guys before I'm thrown to the lions."

Local News in Detroit has him as lead story this evening.

GM is all over his ass about renting out 4 theatres around downtown Detroit to play his stuff this week.

1. Without him doing*, he's more likely going to eat with the lions than to be eaten by them.

* doing his part to cause civil unrest rather than telling everybody to do it for him, which rather indicates he wants others to do his dirtywork for him. That makes him extremely low on the ethics-o-meter.

I've read similar articles so I can't be bothered to click that link, but does it mention if these screenings are free? If he's charging dough, then even the most devout Moorebot would have to think twice before "revolting" in his name.

Sorry, I still can't get it out of my mind what he's said in the past, which is grossly contradictory and so far I've missed out on all the reasons why he's changed his mind (probably a good reason, too):

Like he's said:
“Every filmmaker intends for his film to be seen on the big screen. This wasn’t a guy taking a video camera into a theater. This was an inside job, a copy made from a high-quality master and could potentially impact the opening weekend boxoffice. Who do you think benefits from that?”

(google the phrase, he said it.)

At this point I may not respond to the Moore-gasms, much to most peoples' delight. I just find something very fishy about what I have read.

12. Um.... and what is your point exactly?
how do you think people will react when they discover they have been lied to collectively for over 250 years?

Why are you being so hard on MM?

I can't really see a point behind your vitriol.

3. I don't know why GM would be all over his ass
I saw the movie Friday night and he's not that hard on GM at all. Wall Street yes. He crucifies them.

Moore premieres new film in Bellaire

Movie provokes some tears, little protest

BY BRIAN McGILLIVARY
bmcgillivary@record-eagle.com

BELLAIRE -- Michael Moore made a "love story" that brought tears to the eyes of movie-goers.

His newest documentary proved both sad and inspirational, said northern Michigan residents and others who attended the Michigan premiere of "Capitalism: A Love Story" in Bellaire on Saturday.

"This is the first (Moore film) that made me cry," said Sherri Amstutz. "Seeing the stories of people in this country, seeing them thrown out of their homes when they did nothing wrong but misunderstand a piece of paper."

Connie Brigham attended the premiere in this Antrim County town and expected Moore to tell her about federal bank bailouts "with humor and quirkiness."

But she cried after watching lost footage of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's bygone proposal for a second Bill of Rights to protect the middle class.

"What could have been, it brought tears to my eyes," Brigham said.

But both Brigham and Amstutz also called the movie inspiring, and cited stories of people who stood up to powerful banking interests.

6. Moore is a national treasure and hero.
he was saying what needed to be said long ago and he's still doing it. His detractors are mostly those who drank the right-wing kool-aid, some without knowing they drank it.

11. I agree this man is a hero. He takes on corporations and industries no one will touch.
Michael Moore always champions the little guy. Who else does that any more?
