Terror arrest sparks gov't warning on mass transit

DENVER — An airport shuttle driver under arrest in Colorado may have been planning with others to detonate backpack bombs on New York City trains in a terrorism plot similar to past attacks on London's and Madrid's mass-transit systems, officials said.
The investigation into the possible terror plot has prompted counterterrorism officials to warn mass-transit systems around the nation to step up patrols.
Two law enforcement officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss details of the investigation told The Associated Press late Monday that more than a half-dozen individuals were being scrutinized in the alleged plot.
In a statement, the FBI says that "several individuals in the United States, Pakistan and elsewhere" are being investigated.
Publicly, law enforcement officials have repeatedly said they are unaware of a specific time or target for any attacks. Privately, officials speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case said investigators have worried most about the possible use of backpack bombs on New York City trains, similar to attacks carried out in London in 2005 and Madrid in 2004.

This seems more informative than the Bush color coded threat levels -- but what to do?

Friday the FBI and Homeland Security Department issued a bulletin warning that improvised explosive devices in which bombs were made with peroxide. The bulletin recommended that transit systems conduct random sweeps at terminals and stations and that law enforcement make random patrols and board some trains and buses.

4. I agree
It is beyond the realm of possibility that in killing more than 1 million Iraqi's any Muslim or Arab or Pakistani would hate America so much that they would form groups in America and plot to kill even 1 American.

Question is, are we getting a real wolf this time or not?

20. Typical
get called on something and then try to explain why what you said isn't what you meant and then make the one who responded appear to be the one who should be shunned for being an asshole.

(finished with this)

9. Just make sure...
not to forget about airports. I think security screenings are a pain in the ass, but I'm on planes all day tomorrow. And I'd like to get through these flights without a total mental breakdown.

10. Feds Issue Security Bulletins On Stadiums, Hotels

Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Counterterrorism officials have issued security bulletins about terrorist interest in attacking sports stadiums, entertainment complexes and hotels.

The FBI and Homeland Security Department sent two bulletins Monday to police around the country, saying they know of no specific plots against such sites. The bulletins obtained by The Associated Press say those sites remain attractive targets to groups like al-Qaida.

The memos do not mention the ongoing high-profile investigation of a possible terrorist plot involving a Colorado man and associates in New York City. Instead, they describe the long-standing interest of terrorists to use homemade backpack bombs, car bombs, or even airplanes to attack such crowded public places.

try to second-guess.

I think the same thing, by the way, so it's not just you. :hi:

12. What's up that needs a little bit MORE FEAR as a diversion
I thought we were done with the stupid shit.

If the FBI wants to worry, worry about protecting the President and the First Family.

Hitler also cornered a media outlet (although it was a printing company), fed citizens lies, and whipped them into a gun-toting frenzy. Not saying that OurRW are Nazi's but the rise of violent instability within the German Republic had many similar characteristics...it's a more obvious threat to the nation than a Packers game.

16. On MSNBC this morning they issued a disclaimer
saying the reports were to go to the police only, and were not to be released to the media or the public as there were no known attacks planned. It was for vigilance only.

Of course nobody can keep their mouths shut so we get this what if crap.
