Reid gives GOP direct warning on healthcare
Source: The Hill

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) gave Republicans his most direct warning to date that he is prepared to use a procedural maneuver to pass healthcare reform with a simple majority.

Reid told Republicans that he would prefer to pass healthcare reform under regular order but warned that he would not hesitate to use budget reconciliation if the legislation stalled in committee. The Senate Finance Committee began marking up a sprawling healthcare reform bill on Tuesday morning.

Harry must have borrowed a set of testicles.

Finally find your misplaced spine? I'll totally believe it when he walks the walk. Because it will come to that point.

2. We need a spine
We should just do it and not threaten it. PUBLIC OPTION or bust, and forget about the new Know-Nothing Party/GOP. People are literally dying for health care.

Edited on Tue Sep-22-09 01:29 PM by laughingliberal
He did say before the recess that Democrats may have to go it alone. Everyone hopes a bill can get through cloture but I am glad Reid is signaling he is willing to ditch the RW if they continue obstructing. Now, if we can just make sure the bill they pass is a good one.

edited for spelling

13. It could be the worst of all possible worlds. Bad bill owned totally by the Democrats.
We're forced to buy insurance; no real alternative to buying from the health companies; health companies lightly regulated, if that.

That's a win-win-win for the Republicans.

24. Prosthetic testicles to soothe the sensibilities of macho men who've given in to the whining...
...of family members, veterinarians, and/or animal wellness advocates and had their dog neutered.

Yep. Fake balls.

So when they walk around with fido, there'll be something hangin' 'back there' to make 'em feel, you know... that testosterone rush.

Less legitimately, there is a version sometimes used by unscrupulous handlers showing dogs with anorchia or monorchia to disguise that condition.

Neuticles.

Perfect.

appreciatively,
Bright

Harry has largely been ineffective as leader of the senate but I know he is able to fight. He never let up trying to kill the Yucca mountain debacle the federal government was determined to foist on us, here. And that battle is, for the most part, won. Let's hope he'll fight as hard for this.

28. How about warning Harry - we know the White House cut a deal in July!
Looks like the White House already cut a deal with the corporate health industry.

There's a story at this link titled PHARMA's Big Bribe Comes In.

http://trueslant.com/matttaibbi/2009/09/14/phrmas-big-bribe-comes-in/

"The drug industry’s trade group plans to roll out a series of television advertisements in coming weeks specifically to support Senator Max Baucus’s health care overhaul proposal, according to an industry official involved in the planning."

According to the article, the deal was cut with the White House in July.

"Tauzin, who has never been one for subtlety or finesse (he took his $2 million-a-year PhRMA job about ten seconds after he finished pushing through the Prescription Drug Benefit bill), stupidly later revealed some of the contents of that shady meeting, saying that the White House had “blessed” a plan involving the $150 million. He disclosed to reporters that he had extracted a promise from the White House to drop two important reforms: one, to allow the government to negotiate bulk rates for drugs in Medicare, and the other to permit the importation of cheap drugs from Canada ..."

IF THE DEMOCRATS VERSION OF HEALTH CARE REFORM TURNS OUT TO BE THE SAME AS THIS REPORTED DEAL, THEN I AGREE WITH ED SCHULTZ -- JUST SAY NO AND TRY AGAIN LATER FOR REAL REFORM, after we throw the health industry cheerleaders out of office in November.

29. The Baucus Bill is a mess.
I will never support it unless there is a Single Payer that goes along with it. Its simple you take the medicare tax that you already get me for you combine it with mandates from my employer and thats that you give me Government run health insurance. When the government forces me through fines and taxes to pay for Health Insurance then its time for me to rebel. It is unconstitutional to force me to buy any insurance plan and I will fight against any Democrat that tries to do this.

30. I agree - let's kill the Baucus Bill before it kills us!
Americans, the big question is: Do you want the kind of health care system the rich corporations & their lobbyists want to give you, the kind of corporations like the ones we bailed out on Wall Street?

Or do you want the kind of health care system that you and YOUR representatives in Congress give you by representing YOUR interests, and not the interests of the big campaign contributors that have broken the system in 30 years with excess selfish greed and brought us to where we are now - a broken system for over 70 million citizens and bankrupting the Country and the civility of our future.

because you know the pukes, no matter what is in the bill, they are not for any of it.

They are not for anything that is for the betterment of society as a whole.
