Iranians Blanket Brooklyn Bridge in Green

The Lede is reporting on Thursday from Lower Manhattan, where a demonstration by supporters of Iran’s opposition movement is currently taking place. We are filing video from the protest as it happens, using the streaming service Qik. Embedded below is one video clip shot a few minutes ago. Update | 1:04 p.m. The demonstrators have completed their walk across the Brooklyn Bridge with what organizers say is a mile-long green banner that has been signed by thousands of people around the world — which was earlier wrapped around the Eiffel Tower in Paris — and staged a rally outside City Hall in Manhattan.

Even though green is the color of Shia, it has now come to represent opposition to government tyranny in Iran. And non-violent opposition to tyranny is central to the democratic model.

I don't like the idea that America can bomb anyone anywhere. I wish freedom-lovers everywhere would divorce themselves from the military misadventures of the U.S. government. Those misadventures are 'why they hate us'.
