1. If I am climbing mountains in Tibet when I'm 71...
well, it's not a bad way to go.

Sorry for her loss.

8. You probably will. It seems to be the thing to do at that age.
I think I was about 70 the last time I was there. I'm 77 now. In case you're wondering. I made it back alive. With my sense of humor better than ever before.

22. I don't think I can. Maybe I didn't? That would really suck.
Unless you count that Descartes thing where I think therefore I am. I'll bring that into the computer age. I post therefore I am. Hey, I guess I did make it. Whew! That was a close one.

18. Bittersweet...
Probably not a bad way to go, as his last words were... "I am the happiest man in the world. I just climbed a beautiful mountain."

However, leaving his wife of 33 years behind at the pinnacle of his happiness is terribly tragic in so many ways.

15. The LI rep is Carolyn McCarthy
who actually switched from (R)epuke after the shooting, then decided to run for Congress largely on a gun-control platform.

27. Her husband, Dennis, was killed
Her son Kevin was badly injured, but survived. He is married & has 2 kids. She was my Congresswoman before I moved & I worked on hervfirst campaign. She was a nurse- she decided to run when our Congressman Dan Frisa would not even discuss renewing the assault weapons ban even after the Long Island Railroad massacre happened in our district. She was very brave to take him on - she was really not political before but was so incensed by the treatment she received that she ran.

As others comment: that's the way to do - doing what you love to do.

Though, of course, it is hard on the ones left behind.

13. 'Clifton Maloney,
a millionaire investment banker...'
'A Navy veteran and graduate of Princeton College and Harvard Business School, Maloney also was a seasoned athlete and adventurer.'

So he died at 71 doing something he loved to do. Sounds like he had a lifetime of doing what he loved to do. There is not much to be sad about here, other than the loss to his loved ones, but wow, I would take a life like his rather than live to 80 or beyond.

Hope I can be doing all the things I enjoy when I'm 'of a certain age' too.

23. too young
71 is still some years below the life expectancy for a white male, esp. one in good health.

Very sad.
