US brands Zelaya return 'foolish'
Source: BBC News

A top US diplomat says deposed Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was "irresponsible and foolish" to return before a settlement had been reached.

Lewis Amselem, US ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), said Washington had asked Mr Zelaya not to return because of potential unrest.

He called on him to urge his supporters to keep their protests peaceful.

1. Someone tell Lewis Anselem that Clinton called the moment "opportune"
just a few days ago. Maybe he didn't get the memo or maybe the resistance isn't suffering illegal detention, torture and death graciously enough. :sarcasm:

Who did this gentleman blame when Zelaya was out of the country? There was repression, violence and death then, too.

4. White House and State Department apparently not communicating

Either there is a profound disagreement about Honduras or Hillary's man Anselem needs to get together with Obama's man Crowley to get on the same page.

-----------------------
Washington.- El Gobierno de EE.UU. dijo hoy que es hora de que el Gobierno de Honduras deje de "cavar" y ayude a resolver la crisis política en ese país, al considerar que hasta ahora solo ha contribuido a profundizarla.

-- U.S. government said today that the (golpista) government of Honduras should stop "digging" (itself into a deeper hole) and help to resolve the political crisis, considering that to now it only has contributed to make it more profound.

"Creo que es hora de que el régimen de facto suelte la pala. Con cada acción están haciendo más profundo el agujero, y es hora de que busquen un derrotero más constructivo", dijo en rueda de prensa el portavoz de la Casa Blanca, Philip Crowley.

"I think it is time for the defacto regime to let go of the shovel. With each action they are making the hole deeper, and it is time for them to look for a more constructive road," White House spokesman Philip Crowley said.

Crowley declined to say whether the return of Zelaya had been an "irresponsable" act, as was suggested by the U.S. representative to the OAS, but indicated that in the end, Zelaya "is there" and his return is "an opportunity for dialogue."

6. So Crowley/WH also calls this an opportunity.
What the hell is going on here? People are in terrible danger and these people can't even get their talking points straight.

5. He can fuck off, but I'm glad he said this.
It will only help clear the fog around the pro-fascist coup position of the US government.

7. No fog for me. The US is firmly behind the
Honduran military. Has been for decades, if not more.
