Fed Survey: Recovery Gaining Traction As Shoppers Spend More, Factories Bump Up Production
Source: Associated Press

By JEANNINE AVERSA | Associated Press | 17 minutes ago

The economic recovery gained traction in late fall as shoppers spent a bit more and factories bumped up production. That assessment Wednesday by the Federal Reserve marked its most upbeat view since the economy tumbled into recession two years ago.

The Fed's new snapshot of business barometers nationwide found that conditions have generally improved since the last report in late October.

Eight of the Fed's 12 regions surveyed reported some pickup in activity or improved conditions, the Fed said. Those regions were: Boston, New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas and San Francisco.

The four other regions _ Philadelphia, Cleveland, Richmond and Atlanta _ described conditions as little changed or mixed.

The new report adds to evidence that the economy is rebounding after the worst recession since the 1930s.

3. Just because people are desperate to have a Christmas...
it doesn't mean shit.
The people still need jobs
The money pouring out of our taxpayers pockets is still bleeding us dry.
The wars are costing us a MILLION dollars PER soldier..(um is that a day or by the month? not sure)....
and our health care still stinks.

4. yup, sure.
wake me up in april then tell me how things are going, until then, people buying crap to make themselves feel good during the holiday season does nothing to convince me.

Plus, I wonder if this is just more of people buying stuff because last year they went without, chose to cut back and now feel like "what the fuck" let's buy some shit to feel good?

with unemployment still going up, how on earth can we have a jobless recovery?

I mean, employers are certainly not paying the employees they have left any more money. I know that from my own job.

9. At Some Point During October
responses to rooms for rent in Baltimore took a big jump from one week to the next. It was very distinct. A few people are starting to get jobs again.
