Palin Book Tour Host To Foreign Press: Stay Away
Source: Associated Press

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — She's no longer the chief executive of Alaska, but Sarah Palin should still be called "governor." And in English only, please.

That was the message sent out by officials at the Mall of America this week, who told reporters planning to cover the Minneapolis-area stop on Palin's "Going Rogue" book tour they must address the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate by her former title. The guidelines also banned foreign reporters, allowing "only English speaking press."

Mall officials said the guidelines were a mistake, and apologized Wednesday to Palin for the mix up, which they called "an internal miscommunication" that was "inadvertently distributed."

"That should never have been in any kind of press release," said Tina Andreadis, a publicist for publisher HarperCollins in New York, who added foreign reporters would be welcome at Palin's Mall of America stop.

"That's not the message the governor wants to send out," she said.

4. I am sooo hoping for a Palin-Anybody ticket in 2012.
Not only would dems be able to run just about anyone and win, but the sheer concentration of stupid should sink the Republic Party for good and all.

6. For how long is one able to use
their former title (Governor, Senator, etc.) after he/she has vacated that office? One year? For the rest of your life? I ask this seriously, because it sort of gets under my skin to see these titles held on to by people as if they had been knighted by the queen. Does anyone know the answer to this?

9. I believe convention is to address someone by their highest-held title for the rest of their life...
So Carter & Clinton will always be called Mr President, Sandra Day O'Connor remains Justice O'Connor, etc.

If someone takes on another job, it would be proper to address them by their new title. Former Governor Brown of California is now the State's Attorney General, so he's properly referred to as Attorney General Brown. However, should he decide not to run for Governor next term (he's leaning towards it), when he left his present office convention would call for him to be addressed as Governor Brown.

It's more tradition and journalistic style than anything formal, I believe. To insist that someone refer to you by your former title, especially in a situation where you are not in a representative capacity (Palin isn't serving any interest but her own on this faux-bus tour to promote her "book"), but to insist on a formal address under these circumstances speaks more to the person's insecurities than it does respect for them or their former office.

In addition to being an uninformed, blithering idiot. God, I love her to death. She could single-handedly destroy the GOP in less than 3 years!

20. "only english speaking--no foreign reporters" do these cretins not realize that MANY people outside
Edited on Thu Dec-03-09 01:33 AM by niyad
the US actually do speak english--in many cases, far better than the natives (witness sarah, chimpy, fredo, bachmann, etc)

and, no, it is not required that she be addressed as "governor"-- she QUIT.

so, this blatant stupidity isn't a problem because it's stupid, but because it was leaked? I think I can pass on Mall of America from now on.

22. Somebody at MALL OF AMERICA did the correct thing!

Of course the Mall administration didn't want this inflammatory information leaked, someone there did leak it.

The "denial" is very weak, ""That's not the message the governor wants to send out," and "That should never have been in any kind of press release," both statements according to Tina Andreadis, a publicist for publisher HarperCollins in New York.

Of course the leaked memo was never supposed to be publicized, even sick Sarah's handlers are not that ignorant.

Whoever it was that did change the memo into a press release and distributed it is a hero, of which there are far too few. I hope that it was done carefully enough so that the perpetrator keeps their employment if it was an "inside" job.

And if whoever it was ever reads this, I, and many others I am sure, appreciate your patriotism and clear thinking!
