At least 15 militants killed in Pakistan's Swat Valley

At least 15 militants were killed and more than 150 captured in a military operation in northwest Pakistan's Swat Valley, the Aaj TV channel said on Thursday.

The channel quoted local authorities as saying one of those killed was militant commander Abu Faraj, who was on the Pakistani police's "wanted" list as an organizer of suicide bombings in the area.

An army offensive against Taliban militants has been underway in the region since early May. Over 2,000 militants have been reported as killed so far.

The operation against Pakistan-based Taliban forces came the day after U.S. President Barack Obama announced that an extra 30,000 troops would be sent to neighboring Afghanistan, where the radical Islamic group was toppled from power by a U.S.-led campaign in 2001.

I wonder why they didn't just flee across the border in to Afghanistan.
