At least 10 people have been killed in an attack at a mosque in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, Pakistani military officials say.

Reports suggest there was an initial suicide attack during Friday prayers followed by a series of explosions.

The Pakistani security forces have been targeted in a series of recent attacks. Nineteen people were killed in an army base attack in Rawalpindi in October.

Eyewitnesses have told the BBC that at least two explosions took place after an outbreak of gunfire. The area is cordoned off by the security forces and media have no access.

A military official, Maj Gen Athar Abbas, said that at least 10 people had been killed and 20 wounded.

The incident appears to have taken place near or inside the Parade Lane mosque where people were preparing for the Friday congregation.

2. We can't even help deal with Mexico's death squads on our own border, yet we'll be
able to do anything halfway around the world against individuals who at random, decide to blow themselves up in groups of troops or civilians.

This underscores how ridiculous the 'plan' that hasn't worked for the last 8 years is going to be in the future. You can't throw more troops at a problem like this - it only creates more readily available targets for these extremists.
