2. Interesting draw.
Pretty much assures that the all the seeds will go forward (well, maybe not S. Africa . . .) and the USA, too!

3. Is there a group of death here?
I think that all of the groups have pretty interesting match-ups.

7. That's correct
And Group A has potential too. Two mediocre teams, the home team, and an above average team. Could make for lots of drama.

4. I was listening to a UK radio station earlier. They were hoping for a England/France match.
They wanted payback for Ireland. That would have been interesting.

9. USA's draw is not too bad
Slovenia had a pretty average record in the UEFA qualifiers. And Algeria is not the toughest of the African teams.

Of course, England is the team to beat. Would be sweet if USA came out of that one with a draw or a win. It's the opener for the group.

I think Team USA can do it!

10. Yes, Team USA has a chance in this group

However, USA has very key injuries, and it's not clear just how competitive we'll be in time for the WC.

12. Best USA draw I can remember
We always seem to get stuck with two very good teams. This time we are arguably the second best team in our group.

13. Yes, best draw ever
Problem is our coach "Bob" is in over his head and will get exposed at some point, either in group or knock-out, regradless of how well in-form and injury free his players are. Will we take a 1-0 lead against, say Algeria, at halftime, and see Bob make zero adjustments until the score is tied in the 78th minute? Probably. There goes the tournament........ Or imagine USA getting to the round of 16, and Bob having started 9 of the 11 the whole tournament and of those 9 maybe 2 subbed out for a grand total of 15 minutes, and Bob's son being one who gets zero minutes off, thus ensuring an exhausted team. Can you? I sure can. ............. Or imagine, say an exhausted and injured Bradley junior limping around at the 118th minute of a knockout game, and a good PK taker such as, say, Kenny Cooper sitting on the bench rotting. You think Bob would have the balls to make the switch? Really?

17. Our major problem is that Charlie Davies is out
When he was paired up-front with Jozy Altidore during the Confederation Cup , we suddenly had a dangerous attack for the time in years. And just as suddenly, his car accident put us back to square one.

18. I hate how the US plays so defensively after going up.
That's what screwed us against Brazil in the Confed Cup. You've got to look to score more goals all the time. Look at how Mexico annihilated the US at Giants Stadium this summer. They kept wanting to score more, and the US was totally lost.

I agree with you on Bradley's substitutions - they often make no sense.

14. Ghana's national team 1968 at the African Cup Games 1968.
Asmara Eritrea (Then Ethiopia) The keeper is in the front row. He was a funny guy. We conversed during much of the first half. I wasn't supposed to be on the field, but I decked myself out in all the camera gear I had and strolled onto the field as if I belonged there. Nobody challenged me. I used a Pentax Spotmatic with a Tamaron 80~250 zoom. Used Kodak TriX film. I might have switched back to the 50mm for this shot.

19. Brazil; 1950 World Cup

USA 1, England 0.

One of the great upsets in World Cup history.

Dare we hope for a repeat.

-----------------

The U.S. famously upset England 1-0 in the first round on the 1950 tournament in Brazil, still considered by many the greatest American soccer victory. The June 12 game in Rustenburg features a matchup that could pit Los Angeles Galaxy teammates David Beckham and Landon Donovan on opposite teams.

Odds on the U.S. winning were lowered from 80-1 to 65-1 after the draw, with Spain remaining the favorite at 4-1 followed by five-time champion Brazil at 5-1 along with England.

If the Americans finish second in their group, they likely would play Germany in the second round. If they finish first, they probably would advance to a meeting with Serbia or Ghana.
