Jenny Sanford wouldn't stand by her man
Source: post-gazette

Even if her straying husband had asked her to, South Carolina first lady Jenny Sanford says she wouldn't have stood with Gov. Mark Sanford when he faced cameras to tell the world about his affair with an Argentine woman.

Jenny Sanford told ABC's Barbara Walters for a special airing today her husband's actions have caused consequences but not robbed her of her self-esteem. Excerpts of the interview were released yesterday.

As she has said in earlier interviews, Sanford told Walters she found out about her husband's affair last January and forbid him to see the other woman. She said she told him not to see his four boys or her for a month last summer as well.

"My hope was that he would wake up from whatever he was in the throes of and maybe see what he might lose," she said.

"Certainly his actions hurt me, and they caused consequences for me, but they don't in any way take away my own self-esteem," she said. "They reflect poorly on him."

1. Good for Her

I like this quote....

"Certainly his actions hurt me, and they caused consequences for me, but they don't in any way take away my own self-esteem," she said. "They reflect poorly on him."

4. Are they back together now?
She doesn't mention if he DID wake up from his "throes."

Your move, Mrs. Woods.

5. I wish that more women would do the same thing
My stomach turns when some politician (of either party) gets up there to confess some form of infidelity and then shame their wives by getting them to stand up on stage (a step back and to the side) silently (supposedly) saying "I've forgiven him... so you should too".

13. I hate the political stance of "standing by your man" thing
but personally I just am not interested in what these silly men do in private. I am interested in what they do to the public. And infidelity is such a silly issue anyway. I am sorry, it seems that way to me. I am an over 50's female and many humans demand fidelity and many don't. It is personal, cultural and private and should not be part of the political discourse IMO. That said it is always these rabid wrong wingers who keep bringing it up and they seem to be the most not into fidelity. Why they bring it up all the time when it is an elusive quality for them speaks volumes.

15. What I do NOT get is her forbidding him " to see that woman."
Obviously infidelity was a no-no for her, at least.
And since he lied about it, for him.

why did she think he would respond positively to her putting her foot down when he had already shown he did not give a damn about the marriage???
If that was the case, then she could have just forbid him to cheat on her with anyone, all this time.
If his inner drivers did not work for adultery, why would they work for obeying her?

What am I missing? Masochism?

19. I wonder
If a man would be expected to stand by his woman. Pretty much doubt it.
