Peanut Corp. officials fight for piece of $1 million policy
Source: Lynchnurg New

Creditors and those who became ill after eating contaminated peanut butter aren’t the only ones going after the executives and former managers of the now-bankrupt company at the center of a nationwide salmonella outbreak. According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Lynchburg, they’re also fighting among themselves for a piece of a $1 million corporate insurance policy.

Filings show the Federal Insurance Co. policy was taken out to cover claims made against the employees and executives of Peanut Corporation of America and to provide corporate liability for PCA from December 2007 through April this year.

Representatives for the Lynchburg area-based company filed for bankruptcy protection in February after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration traced the salmonella outbreak to a PCA facility in Blakely, Ga. According to Centers for Disease Control statistics, 714 people became sick from the outbreak in 46 states and in Canada. Most of those became ill between October and January.

The CDC says infections may have contributed to nine deaths, including two in Virginia and one in North Carolina.

Impressive that in 10 short months, the administration through inaction has managed to coopt Republicans by failing to hold to account torturers, banksters, fraudsters and food poisoners.
