Nelson (D-Ne) reviewing abortion compromise
Source: Omaha World Herald

BY JOSEPH MORTON

WASHINGTON — Nebraska’s Sen. Ben Nelson said Wednesday that he is reviewing a potential compromise on the health care bill’s restriction on federal funding for abortion coverage.

But a key Nebraska anti-abortion group swiftly and strongly criticized the proposal.

Nelson said the compromise, negotiated by anti-abortion Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., involves an attempt to separate private and public funds, an approach that in the past failed to sway the moderate Democrat as well as Catholic bishops.

Nelson declined to share the language or to say whether the new language satisfied him. “I don’t know at this point in time. Constituency groups haven’t responded back yet.”

1. He doesn't give a shit about abortions. He'll support the bill now that the PO is out.
He's a corporate whore.

10. Ben "Mutual of Omaha" Nelson
is on the insurance company benefactor list. Abortion is a red herring. The ins companies concentrate on a few senators to buy out for, their corporate agenda.

2. Is he STILL insisting on the language allowing him to stand outside every Planned Parenthood clinic
shouting "Burn in Hell, Whore of Babylon!" at everyone who walks by?

4. I suggest that Bishop refuse any future Fed support for the
church activities that help the homeless & the poor! It's also against the law to receive Fed funds to support any religion, and the churches are getting them because they say they keep the funds separate! Since he apparently doesn't believe that can be done, stop the money!

5. I wish we had a law that specifically forbids men from legislating or even
think of anything to do with women's health.

7. You'd still have to contend with the Eagle Forum/Palinette types.
Women can be vicious and insensitive about this issue, too.

9. Yes, but without the men, their numbers would be smaller and
most likely insignificant. Remember that Olympia Snowe didn't go along with the abortion amendment although she's been stubborn about everything else on the right about health care.

14. Nice bigoted position....
Not all men all knuckle draggers. Would you agree with the inverse position or would that be sexist?

8. If the democrats had an organization
that worked for them the way Howard Dean did we might get rid of some of the crummy bums who call themselves democrats. All the so called organizations do is send you emails asking for money, money money. They don't do one damn thing, oh yeah send a petition to a senator, that's gonna scare the pants off them, right.

If we could pick real democrats to run against cruds like Nelson, Stupak and Bacusus and get them elected we would show the members of congress that they work for us. And they are not the ones to approve of this and approve of that. THEY DO WHAT WE WANT. NOT WHAT THEY WANT. And if we don't get rid of a congress person who struts around like he owns the place they are gonna believe they can do what THEY want and to hell with us. Saying we are just the jokers who put them on their pedestal.

11. It's a lot harder than that. It's our
two-party system. We have to try to get as many on our side as we can and that means many we wouldn't invite to dinner. The Reps have to do the same. How do you think they got stuck with the teabaggers and Christian/fascist wackos?

13. doesn't he know the pro-life wackos won't vote for him, anyway? Why do Dems constantly bend over
to get the repuke "moderate" vote when people like pro-lifers will vote for the real repuke every time, instead of repuke-lite?
