Banking Committee approves Bernanke for second term, 16-7
By Michael O'Brien - 12/17/09 11:26 AM ET

The Senate Banking Committee approved Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's nomination for a second term, with most Dems in favor, on Thursday.

Sixteen members of the committee supported Bernanke's bid for a second term atop the Fed, while seven senators opposed.

All but one of the committee's 13 Democrats, Sen. Jeff Merkley (Ore.), voted for Bernanke, while the committee's Republican members were more mixed. Six Republicans, including ranking member Richard Shelby (Ala.), voted against Bernanke, while four voted in favor.

Bernanke was expected to pass committee, though he's faced some populist outrage from both the left and the right in recent weeks.

That's the only thing I can think of. Here we are, with the results of Bernanke's thievery slapping us smack in the face, and all we can do is say, "Can I have another?"

I am writing Sen. Brown right now. I think the only way we will be heard is to write letters and contact our reps every day. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

20. No, he's trying to secure more financing.
Dobb is bribe magnet. All of his major contributors are the corrupt and insolvent banks. He got a sweet deal from Countrywide on his mortgage, and now he has secured his campaign financing for 2010.

I hope he gets his ass kicked.

Connecticut really needs to get rid of their 2 Senators. I'm not spending a dime in that state while these two are representing it.

19. Nobody has been more WRONG than Bernanke...
He missed every sign the bubble was building, he missed the fraud, he failed to go after the criminals, and this is his reward.

The number 1 arsonist in America is nominated to a second term as fire chief.

Reward failure.
Privatize the profits.
Socialize the losses.

Bernanke moves closer to second term

By Krishna Guha in Washington

Published: December 17 2009 18:16 | Last updated: December 17 2009 18:16

Ben Bernanke moved closer to a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve in the face of a revolt in Congress against his appointment by Senate Republicans.

In a high-stakes hearing, the Senate Banking Committee voted 16 to 7 to advance Mr Bernanke’s renomination to a full vote of the Senate. But while the Fed chief won overwhelming support from Democratic senators on the committee, more than half the Republican members voted no, including ranking member Richard Shelby.

“I strongly disapprove of some of the past deeds of the Federal Reserve when Ben Bernanke was a member and its chairman, and I lack confidence in what little planning for the future he has articulated,” said Mr Shelby.

Supporters cited efforts made by Mr Bernanke – who was named Time Magazine’s Man of the Year this week – to battle the financial crisis. “He did bring us back from the brink of a Depression,” said Democrat Robert Menendez.

27. The Centrists WIll Happily Vote For More of the Same Since
they will profit. Money is everything and this fucker has tons of it, his "own" and ours.

Democrats and republicans are the same. We have single party rule and it isn't "liberal" and it isn't democratic.

28. "from the brink of a Depression" - He did? So says one of the
collective idiots who turned over money with no strings attached just because the previous BALD-FACE lying administration said so.

Idiots.

Crooks.

Liars.

This man should have never been nominated again.

31. "though he's faced some populist outrage ... in recent weeks"
> Bernanke was expected to pass committee, though he's faced some
> populist outrage from both the left and the right in recent weeks.

The criticism for his incompetence (or, rather, his competence at
delivering to the "other set of goals") is scornfully dismissed as
"some populist outrage".

So much for the dream of democracy in the single party state that
is the USA!

:patriot: :spray:
