Russia successfully launches heavy Voyevoda missile

Russia successfully fired a heavy Voyevoda (SS-18 Satan) missile capable of carrying 10 warheads on Thursday morning, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.

"The Strategic Missile Forces launched an intercontinental ballistic missile RS-20V (Voyevoda) from a site in the Orenburg region ," Col. Vadim Koval said.

Koval said the missile hit the targets on Kamchatka, Far East.

He said the launch was designed to test the missile's performance with the aim of extending its service life from to 25 years.

Hate MAD all you want, it has kept the world from a massive land war for my lifetime. Do we all wish we could put the genie back in the bottle? Yes. But because we all know that is impossible, all we can hope for is man's fear of death, which is what MAD is all about.

As proliferation becomes more prevalent, and people who do not fear death (religious fundamentalists) acquire these nasty weapons, we have more and more of a right to be scared. Until then, established powers doing some d*ck-waving doesnt bother me as much as it could.
