Post office standoff suspect was angry at feds
Edited on Thu Dec-24-09 01:40 PM by 47of74
Source: MSNBC

WYTHEVILLE, Va. - A man accused of taking three people hostage in a Virginia post office told them he was angry at the federal government because his son had died in Afghanistan and his beloved truck was about to repossessed, one of the hostages said Thursday.

Suspected hostage-taker Warren "Gator" Taylor, 53, of Sullivan County, Tenn., was arraigned Thursday on kidnapping and other federal charges. The hostages were released unharmed after about eight hours Wednesday and Taylor surrendered without incident.

Federal officials said Taylor was angry at the federal government and told them he had planned the standoff for months or years.

One of the hostages went on to say that Taylor was angry because of his belief the government was taking away guns and overtaxing everyone. Sounds like a teabagger to me. It leads me to wonder if this man was a reader of the fine works of Bill-O, Beck, Hannity, Palin, and so on? It's too early to say for sure but it would not surprise me in the least if he did.

1. "Beloved" truck?
Did he really say that and blame it on the feds? Wonder what his thoughts were on the trilateral commission.

7. I think he was talking about his son's beloved truck. When a son is
killed in the way this one was I suspect that a parent would try to preserve the belongings of that child. He obviously needs some kind of counseling for grief because he certainly isn't thinking right.

3. Being as he is one of the victims of the unnecessary wars
and the fact that he left the victims unharmed, I can work up a smidgen of sympathy for him. But that doesn't mean that he shouldn't spend the next couple of decades in prison for this.

Victims of war come in many forms, for every "Gator" Taylor, there are a thousand family members who have thought about doing what he did.

4. This guy lost his son in Afghanastan also
He is probably very lonely and watches faux all day long.

These are the people that we need to help. I know, I know but if we don't in the future we won't see situations like this end peacefully.

5. Imagine that!--
Being upset because you lost a child in an illegal war? Obviously just a wacko with a truck fetish.

Add Gator's name to a growing list, including the families and friends of innocent civilians killed by drones.

The more we kill, the more enemies we have.

13. Watch how fast they all back away from this hot potato
All those righty wind bags will break a number of speed records backing away from this hot potato. They preach about responsibility all the GD time, but can't own up to things when one of their fans goes off like this.

14. I am very happy no one was hurt. I
truly hope that he gets the help he needs to deal with what to any parent is the worst thing that can happen - to die before your child. I wonder if I would be so different if I lost one of my children to a lie.

16. UPDATED story: Accused Virginia hostage taker had criminal past
http://hosted2.ap.org/OHWIL/cbf3767d533b4c4aae30db330aaf62aa/Article_2009-12-25-US-Hostage-Situation-Post-Office/id-p684e155fd5f34e12862dbde99e666b3b

Whether Taylor served those decades in the Marines is uncertain, with military officials not immediately able to locate any records. The Associated Press also could not corroborate whether his son was killed.

What is certain is that Taylor has a criminal record that includes convictions in Manatee County, Fla., in 1994 on two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child under 16 and a count of attempted second-degree murder. The 53-year-old is a registered as a sex offender in Florida and in Sullivan County, Tenn., where he lives.

Taylor was released in December 1998 from a Florida prison after serving four years for shooting his ex-wife. The St. Petersburg Times reported in 1993 that Taylor shot Karen Taylor three times with a handgun when she was walking through a parking lot on her way to work.

At the time, Taylor was wanted on the lewd and lascivious behavior charges from a 1991 case involving a 13-year-old.

18. Sounding more and more like a teabagger every day
If he'd gotten turned down for a gun permit, he'd have been on Fox "News" complaining about how Obama wanted to take away everyone's guns.

17. He's pissed at Obama because Bush sent his son to war?
He planned the standoff "for months". Probably started on Nov 5.
