GOP Rep. King: ‘Bored’ Napolitano needs to show ‘emotion’

By David Edwards
Monday, December 28th, 2009 -- 11:18 am

In the wake of the attempted bombing of a plane bound for Detroit, Rep. Peter King (NY-R) criticized Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for appearing "bored."

"What I was critical of here was that first of all we went almost 48 hours before anyone from the administration came out and even spoke about what happened," explained King Monday.

"Finally, Janet Napolitano comes out and the first thing she said was everything worked well. And she seemed almost like she was bored to be there. There was no intensity. There was no show of emotion," he said.

King was not the only Republican to attack Napolitano's tone. Former George W. Bush spokesperson Dana Perino told Fox News Monday that Napolitano "missed the mark" with her tone and needs to "turn up the urgency just a tad."

3. We had 7 years
of over reaction to every little thing. 9/11 was a big thing. Calling press conferences and raising the terror alert everytime there was an election coming up was sleazy and opportunistic.

So King wants Napolitano to be sleazy and opportunistic. I guess those are qualities he can recognize.

4. Acting wth emotion would do what exactly?
I would rather have these incidents handled professionally and with wisdom instead of the hysteria we went through with the Bush administration.

The media is making this sound like the flight originated here in the US.

I wish Lieberman would get lost with his neocon hype for starting yet another war and occupation...which is what he is really calling for. Hysteria here keeps us from looking closely at what is going on in Israel, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and India. Keeping our eyes off of the real sources and pain going on because of ou polocies makes it easier for bad actors to keep on acting in their own self-interests while flinging us into another conflict. The truth is, no one can stop attacks against us all the time for all time...even attacks within our own country by our own citizens. Here we go again dumping dollars in places that will enrich a few contractors while taking much needed resources from elsewhere.

20. Religious fanatacism is common among the mentally ill.
The man who did this is probably mentally very troubled if not ill. His father warned about him.

I suppose you could pour tranquilizers into their water, but the best way to deal with them is to stay calm. Getting excited and worrying people is stupid. It did not work for Bush. Napolitano is doing the right thing.

27. The Repugs are so immature that it makes my head spin!
Edited on Mon Dec-28-09 02:36 PM by MadMaddie
They want every event to be treated like a "Fire", they want all responses to be knee jerk without evaluation and analysis. I want the right answer and the right defensive or offensive move not the wrong attack and getting distracted from the real origination of the threat.

Don't get me wrong there will be times when immediate reaction is required but it won't be shouted to the world before it happens.

These guys are just plains stupid.

32.  What ? Was she supposed to have
some kind of religious experience? Do a song and dance routine? Throw herself on her knees and commence praying? Speak in tongues and do a little shaking at the same time? The women remained dispassionate and calm and the last thing she should have done was to get all worked up,frothing at the mouth and deliver bullshit political rhetoric. But that's typical of these obstructionist Republican assholes,to respond this way at a time when everyone should keep their cool.

Seriously, though, Napolitano is a real no-nonsense person. She was businesslike in AZ and she's gonna be that way in DC. :sigh: I wish we had her back here to deal with all our wingnuttiness in the lege. . . . .

One of the wackos who came out to pray over that poor shell of a woman was hauling a gigantic crucifix behind his pickup truck.

It was teh awesome. :wow:

37. Not what I had in mind. . . . .
I was thinkin' along the lines of a Jesus face in the rusty spots on the chrome ball, but it'd be like all distorted and stuff, y'know? Like all weird and bulgy or somethin'.

But now that you mention it, I do remember that guy I think.

Around here we just have 'em painted on the tailgates or in the truck cab window. You know, stars 'n' stripes for a background, then a big ol' rugged cross superimposed, usually with some reference to John 3:16 and/or 9/11 somewhere, too. It's pretty pukey.
