Dec. 28 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama said “we will not rest” until the U.S. finds everyone responsible for a suspected terrorist’s alleged attempt to blow up an airliner on Christmas Day.

“We will continue to use every element of our national power to disrupt, dismantle and defeat the violent extremists who threaten us,” said the president, who interrupted his vacation in Hawaii today to make his statement. Almost 300 passengers and crew could have been killed if the attack had been successful, he said.

Federal authorities are investigating how a 23-year-old Nigerian man, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, was able to board a Northwest Airlines flight in Amsterdam on Dec. 25 while carrying explosives, which he allegedly tried to detonate as the plane approached Detroit.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula claimed responsibility for the attempt, according to IntelCenter, an Alexandria, Virginia-based group that monitors terrorist organizations. IntelCenter said in an e-mail that the organization’s written claim included a photo of Abdulmutallab.

Obama’s statement was his first public comment since the incident three days ago. Yesterday two top administration officials, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and press secretary Robert Gibbs, answered questions and reassured the public of air-travel safety.....

Sounds a bit too much like "finding the real killers" but lets hope something is done to curb these folks from actually getting on the plane. And lets forget about stupid, reactionary rules like making people sit on a plane for the last hour without a blanket or bathroom.

Agree with WriteDown. But since law-abiding travelers are not protected as a special, victimized group with lobbying organizations demanding mainstream media attention, it's OK to harass them with stupid rules.

What we can never do is "profile" people who, you know, have actual terrorist activities and connections.

How did this clown get on the plane? Ask the Netherlands, which has been supplanting reason with pandering to religious fundamentalism in the name of "tolerance" for some time now.
