GOP Rep Has No Explanation For GOP Hypocrisy
Ben Craw | December 30, 2009, 5:25PM

During a telephone interview on MSNBC today Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX) failed to reconcile the hypocrisy inherent in Republican criticisms of President Obama's allegedly soft or slow reaction to the attempted attack on flight 253. As MSNBC's Milissa Rehberger pointed out, then-President George W. Bush took six days to issue a response to shoe bomber Richard Reid's failed attack in 2001 -- far longer than President Obama took to address flight 253.

Plus, Reid had a trial in civilian court -- though Republicans have jumped all over the Obama administration for not trying Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab in a military tribunal.

After stammering momentarily to Rehberger's question about the apparent double standard, Rep. Conaway offered an answer that didn't address the question:

Well, I didn't come out immediately and criticize the president. He has said let's do this review. There's some other steps he can take. ... Let's look forward to what we ought to be doing, and we can spend all the time we want to looking backwards, whether you want to criticize Bush or whatever. The truth of the matter is, there are active jihadists at work right now trying to come hurt and kill Americans.

19. Typical repug tactic ...
take the question and change it to the question you want to answer and answer that question ...

"So, Senator Rikewing, how do you explain these photos of you and your mistress skinnydipping in the reflecting pool?"

"Well, I always did look good in blue suits ..."

about as relevant ...

5. This typifies the republicans perfectly, lie, criticize distort, smear & hope they won't get called
Edited on Wed Dec-30-09 06:10 PM by LaPera
on it....

Republicans are obstructionist liars, they have nothing to offer nor to run on but tax cuts for the rich & corporations, while only creating fear & imperialistic war-mongering....

Republicans are such partisan assholes and since they have nothing to run on they will say & do anything (even if they did worse in the past) in order to bring down the president or any democrat and use their inbred republican sliminess to get elected (or steal it) to continue their greedy, hateful selfish corporate fascist republican ideology...

WHO COULD DISAGREE?

NOT EVEN A REPUBLICAN WOULD DISAGREE!!

17. Conaway couldn't give an answer because the MSM gerbils rarely, if ever, ask Repubs such questions.
They're too busy aggravating the dissension toward Obama and the Democrats by giving any opponent's events or comments full blown coverage.

20. Why should they have an explanation? GOP = Gang Of hyPocrites...
It's in their blood; it's their nature...

Let's look forward to what we ought to be doing, and we can spend all the time we want to looking backwards, whether you want to criticize Bush or whatever.

I'm getting a little tired of this thought-virus. Too bad they didn't believe their own words when they went after Clinton.

I don't want to "criticize" Bush "or whatever..." I want him prosecuted and thrown in prison! :grr:

22. Yea, it's kinda funny...
"Thought virus." That's a good one.

A good comeback to that comment would be, "I don't think Obama would be criticizing Bush and looking back if the Right - as well as Bush's own VP - weren't criticizing him AND comparing his reaction to Bush's. If you don't want folks talking about Bush, uuuuuhhhh Don't talk about Bush!

Using “thought virus” on DU goes back to 2003

9. I'm sorry. I don't mean to obsess on that comment,

Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 11:19 PM by Jim Sagle

but it qualifies as a "meme" - a thought virus that if spread, could kill Joey's campaign.

I know Mike from Chicago - he broadcast from WLS 890 for three years 8-11 PM weekdays. It kept me sane during impeachment.

His show was 2nd-highest rated in Chicagoland, but they fired him anyway.

So much for "liberal talk radio doesn't attract an audience", "the marketplace rules" and all those other lies.

DU thread

It's been used several times since then. I believe some DUers prefer the use of “thought virus” to the term “meme” :hi:

29. There's also
their constant whining about how terrible this attack was: How terrible terrorist attacks in general are...
Yet somehow I seem to remember an awful lot of videos of them hoping for terrorist attacks to stop Obama's socialism.
Funny how no one in the media seems to be willing to say "Yeah? Then why do we have you on video hoping terrorists will attack us?"

30. The overlooked point here
is that every time there is GOP criticism of the Obama Administration, on any issue, there are dozens of microphones shoved into the face of the critic.

This in itself is a huge story. I watch the Sunday Morning talk shows and political discussions on TV. What is the explanation for this four and five to one imbalance and 24/7 criticism? Why isn't this a story?

I watched C-Span's Washington Journal yesterday morning. It might as well have been Fox News.
