N.J. Senate President calls for resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano

TRENTON -- Senate President and acting Gov. Richard Codey today waded into the national furor over the attempted airline bombing on Christmas Day, firing off a letter calling for the resignation of U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

"Based on the handling of this entire affair, I think it’s time for you to consider stepping down and making room for an individual with more law enforcement and counterterrorism experience to take the reins at the Office of Homeland Security," Codey (D-Essex) wrote. "The entire episode was handled poorly, from start to finish."

Codey is serving as governor while Gov. Jon Corzine is out of state for the holidays. Corzine’s office declined to comment.

Napolitano, the former governor of Arizona, also previously served as U.S. attorney for Arizona and the state’s attorney general. White House officials have said President Obama remains confident in her.

6. Members don't get fired. With a 2/3 vote of the Members of their
respective body (House or Senate) they are expelled.

I don't expect that you would get even 1/3 of just the dems to vote to expel Joe. When they start expelling based on ideology, our country is finished.

7. Codey is a "machine" Democrat - not good news for Janet
I can't disagree with Dick here, she botched this up. She imbues no confidence. They should keep her off TV. Who else can we get?

9. Codey is just peeved at losing the NJ Senate Presidency to Sweeney
He's over.

He was trying to line up Republicans to vote for him in January so he could keep the Senate Presidency, since the caucus has agreed to back Sweeney.

11. The acting Gov of NJ???
Maybe he ought to worry more about New Jersey and start acting like their Governor -- which is his job and spend less time trying to act like the Homeland Security Secretary or the President of the United States

12. Two days ago, I said Napolitano would be called upon to fall on her sword.

She may not even have been responsible for the failure to share intelligence about this guy. However, somehow, this guy made it to the UK's no fly list while he was only on our "watch list" (and, apparently being on our 500,000 name watch list means next to nothing).

There was a specific warning about this perp to our embassy. Independently of that, the CIA was watching him as "the Nigerian guy," because they did not know his name. here was a third piece of intelligence floating around within our own system. Our agencies failed to share info before 911. Homeland Security was formed to remedy that failure to share. It failed so to do.

Napolitano may or may not have been at fault, but she and/or someone in the CIA is going to have to resign.

The sad thing is that many Americans will feel the resignation actually means something as far as their safety.
