Iraqi prisoners ‘were sexually humiliated by female British soldier’

Fourteen new cases of sexual abuse have been made against a secretive British Army interrogation unit

Tom Coghlan and Alice Fordham in Baghdad

A female British soldier is accused of sexually humiliating and abusing prisoners in Iraq in a series of claims about British troops in Basra, The Times has learnt.

Five former detainees have made specific allegations against a female interrogator they knew as “Katy”.

The claims are among 14 new cases brought against a secretive British Army interrogation unit. These bring to 40 the total of pending British court cases by former Iraqi detainees.

Sexual abuse was routinely practised by the Joint Forward Intelligence Team (JFIT) between 2003 and 2007, it is claimed, when the unit ran the Divisional Temporary Detention Facility based at the Shaibah Logistics Base near Basra. Among the allegations is at least one case of male rape.

9. What the hell are you talking about?
You seem to have an agenda. From the two posts you have made on this thread, I assume that you think that the rape, torture and murder of INNOCENT Iraqis is perfectly OK. After all, it was just a grade school prank and Americans were treated much worse (going to need some proof on that, by the way. There are multiple instances of the captives being released completely unharmed (such as Jessica Lynch)).

I think that is not the case. If I remember correctly, she was sexually assaulted after she was wounded.

22. She says that she doesn't remember that happening.
The propaganda put out about her capture and "rescue" are completely crap. She says that she was wounded when her vehicle wrecked after an ambush and that the doctor's in the hospital protected and cared for her until they could get a message to the military that she was in that hospital.

She testified before Congress about it.

Everyone believes she was raped because of the author of her book:

"In the initial press briefing on April 2, 2003 the Pentagon released a five-minute video of the rescue and claimed that Lynch had stab and bullet wounds, and that she had been slapped about on her hospital bed and interrogated.

Iraqi doctors and nurses later interviewed, including Dr. Harith Al-Houssona, a doctor in the Nasirya hospital, described Lynch's injuries as "a broken arm, a broken thigh, and a dislocated ankle". According to Al-Houssona, there was no sign of gunshot or stab wounds, and Lynch's injuries were consistent with those that would be suffered in a car accident. Al-Houssona's account of events was later confirmed in a U.S. Army report leaked on July 10, 2003.

The authorized biography, I Am A Soldier Too: The Jessica Lynch Story, by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Rick Bragg states that Lynch had been raped during her captivity, based on medical records and her pattern of injuries.

Lynch does not recall any sexual assault and was "adamantly opposed to including the rape claim in the book", but that Bragg wore her down and told her that "people need to know that this is what can happen to women soldiers"."

37. You remember incorrectly
Remember that whole incident including the filmed "daring rescue" was stage managed by BushCo.

She came out and told the truth about what happened -- that she doesn't remember any abuse and remembers being treated kindly by the doctors and nurses.

Forcing an Iraqi man to watch as she masturbated in front of his face? From my limited understanding of Islamic culture, that would be a very great insult and an extremely demeaning experience. She should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

24. can I quote our ex- Prime Minister on this......
as a few thousand of us marched in Sydney and tens of thousands marched in London pleading not to invade Iraq:

..a year after the invasion began our wonderful insightful (former) PM John Howard said in Parliament to the visiting George Bush Jnr:

"I again take the opportunity of reaffirming the correctness of the government’s assessment in predeploying our forces, and I record the bitter opposition of the Australian Labor Party when that decision was taken. Not only was the military operation completed quickly and successfully but it is also worth recording that all of the doomsday predictions, particularly the many that came from those who sit opposite, were not realised.
The oilwells were not set on fire; there were not millions of refugees; the dams on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers were not breached to bring on catastrophic flooding; and there was no long, drawn out, bloody, Stalingrad style street-to-street fighting in Baghdad. For all of this we must be immensely grateful, but it is a reminder of the hysteria and the doomsday predictions that often accompany operations of this kind. And, just as many of the predictions about a Western Front style holocaust that were made in 1991 when the land war commenced were proved wrong, so the predictions on this occasion have been proved wrong.
The decisive victory of the American led coalition reflects enormous credit on the strength and the determination of the leadership of President Bush. Again I remind the House of the way in which his role was vilified and traduced by many of those who sit opposite and of the way in which speaker after speaker from the Australian Labor Party impugned his integrity, assaulted his judgment and called into question his ability to lead the United States in this very difficult conflict. History has proved them wrong.
The performance of the President has illustrated how infantile their protests were, and the leadership that he has given on this occasion, I believe, will bring about a permanent change in attitudes in the Middle East."

The Only reason the US doesn't got into a Stalingrad Style combat scene with the Iraqi army was because the US armed forced avoided it a all cost.. Under the invasion of Iraq US avoided go into the City's even when they was right on their way to Baghdad.. And as I recall it, american generals was telling very clear that they doesn't was so into a stalingrad type of warfare at all.. And therefore was pretty clear about the necessarily to let the iraqi officials in charge just hold their hands tight and not do something stupid...

And US got into Baghdad pretty fast that is true...

And it is also well known that the Iraqi army, included the special forces more or less melted away before the US armed forces arrived and the token defense of iraqi city's by the iraqi army was more for showing off to the public that they do had the will to fight... If the 400.000 strong army had had an better moral (admittedly the iraqi army was broken long before the US marched into Iraq) and far better equipment and training... Like they had when the US used them to wage a war against Iran in the 1980s, then they might have had a little harder time marching to Bagdad... And they might even experienced the same type of warfare as the German Whermacht discovered when the 6th army under Paulus was digging itself ito the grave in the ruins of Stalingrad... Mostly because The Luftwaffe had bombing Stalingrad to rubble before the 6th army got into the city... Not to point out that Whermact had pounded the City mercelly for more than 4 weeks before the russians had to almost leave the City limit... Germany was really close to manage to take Stalingrad in the summer of 1941.. If they just have had more soldiers, and more pressure at the front line it might had worked out far better for the german 6th army....

My guess is that if the US ever encounter a military who are not broken and who have all the equipment they need to wage a long war, not in a dirt poor country like Iraq, but say China.. Then the US army and other military formations really will be tested for what they are wort... And they might find them self fighting a Stalingrad style warfare after all... And they Will discover that urban warfare is a mess no one want to be couth up in, if avoidably
