Newark Airport in lockdown after security scare
ANDREW HEASLEY
January 4, 2010 - 12:37PM

One of America's busiest airports is in lockdown after a security scare.

Security officials have shut down Newark Airport in New Jersey after a man breached security by walking on the wrong side of a security checkpoint.

Police are still searching for him in the airport. Security officials have not allowed anyone to enter or leave Terminal C of the airport.

The incident comes on the first day of heightened security measures for US airports in response to the failed attempted bombing of a US-bound flight on Christmas Day.

This is 20 minutes old at time of posting. Searched LBN but could find no mention of it, so it may be of interest to those travelling.

2. FFS, it happened around 5:30 pm and they still haven't found him.
Cleared out the terminal, terminal C, and deplaned boarded passengers.

What a fucking mess.

That dude is gonna get it!!! :P

Walking the in through the exit section at security, TSA missed it.

Lots of pissed of people right about now.

32. How recent was that?
My initial response would be, "you're fired". The only reason I can think is that they are making people work 10-12 hour shifts or more, which is too long. There are cameras all over the place and supposedly people are watching the monitors. I would think if an employee fell asleep, someone would have the sense to have them relieved.

7. I remember drinking 15 yards away from the gate and having them open the door for me...
...cuz they closed it too soon.

I remember smoking reefer in the head.

Hell, I remember smoking on the plane and taking naps by lying across three seats with the armrests up!

Before the seats got narrower and most flights were overbooked.

Yeah, flying used to be fun.

Now it's painful.

:P

Actually, the 1970s.

I don't drink or smoke weed anymore.

But flying was much more carefree and fun back then...

22. Oh, KoKo, that's NASTY!

I know you're just kidding.

I actually took a Greyhound once from Valdosta, GA to LA, then North, back in the day.

It was like a scene from a Quenten Tarantino movie, the part from LA north.

Crazy shit happening in the back, I really wanted to get off and waited to get a seat way up front by the driver.

That's got to be one shitty thankless job.

8. I won't be surprised to see a few stress heart attacks in that crowd.
Flying is getting more dangerous by the day and it's not necessarily because of terrorism, but because of the response to terrorism.

26. My first flights, usually long trips, were fun...
I really enjoyed them, and loved airports.

But, after a while, it became like sardines packed into a tin can, and the leg room was not good.

Too much work (no vacation) kept me off planes until 9/11.

After that, there was still no need to fly (for work), and I decided to take what little vacation I could eke out via car.

33. I am the same way, but still manage. The service has gotten worse
not only with American carriers, but others around the world. Living overseas and wanting to travel so much, I don't have much other choice but to do what I can to cope with it. I flew back to the US on my first international trip in September 2001, got in the Friday before the 9/11 attacks. Couldn't help but ponder if I had been coming back the next week I would have been stuck indefinately in Europe. Moved overseas in Jan 2004 and fly back and forth every two years or so. Had a bad experience in 2007 where I got pulled out of line coming through customs and they not only checked my bag, but my laptop as well (and I mean every file). I will never bring a laptop with me again going into the US (coming back is not a problem for some reason because customs is so easy getting back into where I live).

24. Can you imagine the missed connections?
my last few flights have been horrible.....and my last three flights have been delayed so much that connections have been missed....the last one I had to pay for hotel accommodations. Not cool, not pleasant....and now with the body scans ugh! Sometimes one really has to fly though. My mother was on her death bed, so I had to fly to see her.

I guess the problem is that too many of them actually BELIEVE IN the Fake War On Terror.

We are becoming a population of abused spouses.

And it's getting way out of hand.

This is what happens when you're willing to believe in, support, and enable the lie AT ANY COST.

We are going to move incrementally into a complete Police State.

And for the most part, the Sheep couldn't be happier, or care less, about it.

23. TSA

Will they make everyone take their shoes off?

Who fell asleep at the watch station? They can't even prevent a man from walking within INCHES of the fucking guard station going the wrong way?

And they want US to do more?

TSA is the biggest fucking joke of the century.

36. "TSA is the biggest fucking joke of the century"
And we're the punch line. I always bring back Northwest beer and wine in my check-in luggage, and I always get that "we looked through your luggage and your dirty underwear, drunkard" card in the cases. You'd think they would link up my luggage to the name tag on it, figure out that I do this regularly, and simply use their time checking out the luggage of some infrequent flier.

But making us all feel like terrorists is part of the fun when you're a jackbooted TSA Nazi!

40. Flying out of OKC isn't bad...
the airport is small and the TSA agents seem to know what they're doing.

It's having to route through Houston that I hate. It'll be fine and I'll be home Saturday. Then i won't have to get on a plane for 6 months, my longest stretch in well over two years.

34. terrorists have some deal going
They pull off some half-assed attempt and get a huge bank for their buck. They cost us tons of money in "full-body scanning machines" and in our time and convenience.

Our government's crappy foreign policy got the U.S. into this situation and air travelers and taxpayers are the ones who pay for it.

And I'm supposed to be mad at the terrorists.
