Prop. 8 Judge Says Yes To Cameras
Source: NBC Bay Area

<snip>

Walker made his ruling just before noon Wednesday.

Walker turned down an offer by Court TV to shoot the proceedings, and opted instead to have the court's technology department do it.

Tech workers, one wearing a judge's robe, sat in three locations for an earlier test broadcast which they posted on YouTube today. The proceedings will be shown in a triple split screen.

The video will be broadcast on YouTube the following day. Live broadcasts will be piped to a nearby overflow room as well as facilities in Seattle, Portland, Pasadena and Chicago.

The judge said if witnesses did not want to be videotaped, they would simply turn off one of the three cameras during their testimony. Walker said he will shut it down entirely if it turns out to be a distraction or causes problems.

3. Wonderful... except... why are people allowed to hide?
If they think that creating a multiple-tiered system in America is so damn great, then they should be proud and stand there, with their head held high, staring straight at the cameras.

4. Exactly!
If they can't be proud of their actions and themselves... hypocrites! But we knew that, right?

6. someone should track/photograph those who stay off-screen and update videos with a still shot

there must be a way someone can do that as folks leave the courthouse

8. It would be rather amusing...
If when they walked off the witness stand, they walked into view of another camera:)

14. This is good news & much appreciated by the rest of the country, too
Allowing the witnesses to turn off their video camera still frees the special interests from putting their bigoted faces on record.

I like the idea of adding their snapshot onto the video.

I'm sure some enterprising youngster will have that up on YouTube in no time! :evilgrin:
