Gay marriage foe wants out of Proposition 8 trial
Source: Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO — A vocal gay marriage opponent who volunteered to become a defendant in the case challenging California's same-sex nuptial ban is now asking to be removed from the case.

Hak-Shing William Tam was one of the five official sponsors of Proposition 8 who formally "intervened" in a federal lawsuit challenging the voter-approved ban. The lawsuit officially names the state as the defendant, but Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown have refused to defend the voter-approved ban.

On Friday, Tam told U.S. District Court Judge Vaughn Walker that he fears for his and his family's safety. In his court filing, Tam's lawyers say the trial will bring him unwanted publicity and expose him to retribution from gay marriage supporters.

10. It's funny, the only two instances of "violence" I remember from after the Prop 8 issues was when..
Edited on Fri Jan-08-10 07:52 PM by mrbarber
Some lone protestor knocked down a "God Hates fags" sign at a rally (I remember Mike Huckabee and the blond haired bimbo on the view making a big deal out it on the show, huckabee (rot his bones) somehow claiming that that showed that christians were just as discriminated agaisn't as GLBT folks)

and when some crazy born again Christian wacko claimed to have been "attacked" the day after Prop 8 passed when she and her little cohorts were praying for "dem homosexuals" souls in San Francisco.

9. strange that he has a lot to fear from the people who, no doubt, would also claim to be
"pro-life" and support "pro-life" candidates ...

and yet, he probably wouldn't have anything to fear from the "culture of Death" people, who actually try to improve life for those already born ...

16. Ha ha ha
Good! I'm glad he's scared. But he started this bigoted dogfight and now he has to finish it. If he is ostracized and victimized - so be it. Now he knows how it feels to be homosexual in America. Am I gay? No. But there's right and there's wrong. This guy needs to be taught right from wrong. I hope he pees himself walking into court! I hope there many Americans who happen to be gay there to witness it!

17. Are there any defendants left in this case?
Wild assumption time: if all the defendants pull out of the case for one reason or another, does the amendment get stricken automatically?
