Suspect: 20 Others Trained to Blow Up Jets

British Intelligence has confirmed perhaps the most chilling boast that accused Christmas Day bomber Umar Abdulmutallab made to investigators after his arrest: that close to 20 other young Muslim men were being prepared in Yemen to use the same technique to blow up airliners, CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian reports exclusively.

"I think the fact we know that there are other operatives being trained by al Qaeda in Yemen is extremely troubling, and is the most dangerous dimension to come out of the December 25th event," said CBS News national security analyst Juan Zarate.

That is why, sources say, the U.S. government issued this directive last Sunday - announcing "enhanced screening" for "every individual" on U.S.-bound flights from 14 countries, including Afghanistan, Somalia and Yemen.

In addition, a team of FBI agents is now on the ground in the West African nation of Ghana, having arrived last Saturday, attempting to piece together Abdulmutallab's whereabouts and activities in the two weeks prior to the attempted attack on Flight 253.

There's news and then there's editorial...and the two words "chilling boast" would not be allowed by a competent editor of a high school newspaper. Later a "national security analyst" calls the info "The most dangerous dimension to come out of the December 25th event". See, we've now entered a "chilling" new "dimension".

I am personally MUCH more scared than if a confused youth merely CLAIMED others were being trained. And more afraid than if we stayed within the same three dimensions we started in.

23. Note to CBS News: Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia, not Ghana

and it's 'capital', not 'capitol'. Sloppy.

According to a government official, Abdulmutallab first arrived in the Ghana capitol of Addis Ababa on December 9 after spending five months in Yemen.

Since their earlier story said he went from Ethiopia to Ghana, I suspect they've given this to a geographically-inept intern to write out:

Details are scarce because "this is a security issue," James Agyenim-Boateng, the country's Deputy Information Minister, told CBS News. He said the FBI had been in the country since Saturday and that no arrests have been made as of yet.

Agyenim-Boateng said Abdulmutallab, upon arriving in Ghana Dec. 9 from Ethiopia, had listed one hotel where he was staying on his immigration form, but actually stayed in a different hotel.

Which makes me wonder whether this CBS reporter has exclusive contacts in British intelligence; or if someone is just copying rumours from a blog or forum somewhere.
