Arrest Made in Newark Airport Security Breach
Source: Associated Press

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- The man believed to have caused a security breach that resulted in major delays Sunday at Newark Liberty Airport has been arrested and will be charged with defiant trespassing.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says 28-year-old Haisong Jiang of Piscataway was taken into custody at 7:30 p.m. Friday at his home by Port Authority police. It was not immediately clear whether Jiang has retained a lawyer.

Further details were not immediately available.

On a surveillance video released Thursday by the Transportation Security Administration and the Port Authority, a man wearing a light-colored jacket ducks under a rope barrier and enters the secure area unseen by a security guard.

State.

Or maybe we should all be good little boot-licking citizens and let the Police State thrive, and just live with all the consequences that come along with it.

What a cowardly, weak, soft population we have become.

This thread has the collective IQ of a breadstick.

I have more respect for my fellow travelers than to do something selfish. Sneaking into the secured area of the airport is not the same as sneaking into a movie theater. It has nothing to do with being afraid of a terrorist under my bed.

There was NO REASON to go to the extremes that they did.

Dear God, what the fuck is WRONG with people in this country?

We need to GET RID of this Draconian Bullshit, not ruin people's lives and submit to it.

It's like somebody said in a thread earlier today.

I'd rather be killed by a terrorist than live in a state of cowardice and tryanny.

You can lick all the boots you want.

There is no way I will defend this. Ever.

Jesus Christ, this thread has given me a whole new list of people to add to my ignore list.

That's a ridiculous statement.

They could have found a way to handle it without making it the unnecessary joke of a spectacle they did.

They shut the WHOLE TERMINAL DOWN. THAT was OVERREACTING.

You know that, and if you don't, you should know better.

We need to do away with this useless, draconian Farce that is the TSA.

It isn't ABOUT "Keeping You Safe".

It never was from the beginning.

It's about getting you to submit to control. This is what tyranny IS. And if you think it's going to stop here, and not expand and KEEP expanding, you're either naive or you simply don't want to see.

And from the looks of the responses in this thread, it's working.

And it's a pathetic joke.

I am done with this conversation.

66. Accepting screening is not "tyranny."
I'm absolutely fine with having a system for screening passengers. If I buy a ticket for a flight, go to a museum, stop at the National Archives to do research or enter an office building on Capitol Hill, I expect someone to be keeping an eye on the place.

Millions of employees, tourists, travelers, et al go through screening every day in democracies around the world. You're not going to tell me putting a briefcase on a conveyor belt is the equivalent of disappearances or gulags or whatever.

46. So who will make $$$ off of full body scanners? Chertoff, for one.
Who's Getting Rich From the Naked Full-Body Scanner Boom?

By James Ridgeway, Mother Jones Online. Posted January 6, 2010

Chief among them is former DHS secretary Michael Chertoff, who now heads the Chertoff Group, which represents one of the leading manufacturers of whole-body-imaging machines, Rapiscan Systems. For days after the attack, Chertoff made the rounds on the media promoting the scanners, calling the bombing attempt "a very vivid lesson in the value of that machinery" -- all without disclosing his relationship to Rapiscan.

and

Former Sen. Al D’Amato, R-N.Y., represents L3 Systems, about which Bloomberg wrote today: "L-3 has ‘developed a more sophisticated system that could prevent smuggling of almost anything on the body,’ said Howard Rubel, an analyst at Jefferies & Co., who has a ‘hold’ rating on the stock."

Perhaps those in charge of scripting our airport kabuki theater should think about installing cue cards on unmanned ropes for the unhip (i.e. innocent folks with better things to think about than draconian bullshit) ... ?

If nothing else it would add to the whole 'security as theater' experience, and just may give shivers of delight to the people who think signs and unmanned ropes keep them safe).

Some of the shit done in the anti-war movement in the 60s, if done today would end up in life sentences in some federal prison.

The galling thing to me is how some here regard war criminals like betrayus as saviors of the world.

85. Not according to the article
The video surveillance describes a man "who has not been found".

"On a surveillance video released Thursday by the TSA and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the guard is seen sitting at a security podium in an exit lane as passengers stream past on their way out of the terminal.

A man wearing a light-colored jacket stands inside a rope barrier, and the guard approaches the man, apparently telling him to move behind the rope.

Within a minute, the guard leaves the podium again and disappears into the crowd. A woman in a long white coat approaches the podium from inside the terminal; the man sees her and ducks under the security rope, and the two walk past, arm in arm.

The man was seen on a separate surveillance camera leaving the terminal about 20 minutes later, according to the TSA. He has not been found, and his identity remains a mystery."

34. The Watcher
You almost gave me a shred of confidence that not everyone in this country had lost their mind, but then the comments that followed reaffirmed my faith in exponential stupidity.

The real issue here isn't that some retard went where he wasn't supposed to, but that the authorities shut the whole terminal down because some retard went where he wasn't supposed to.

Is anybody here old enough to remember flying before there was an excuse to put the entire country on lock-down?

Do you really feel safer?

If there was REALLY a terrorist threat, stuff would be blowing up everywhere. Oh, you think that this doesn't happen because the authorities stop it before it happens? More propaganda . . . as if they don't make the biggest scene out of every possible little thing they do in the never-ceasing "war on "terror"".

Hide in your basements, the security level is "orange".

36. "The real issue here isn't that some retard went where he wasn't supposed to,
Edited on Sat Jan-09-10 02:27 AM by TheWatcher
but that the authorities shut the whole terminal down because some retard went where he wasn't supposed to."

EXACTLY.

And that is the point, is it not?

There was NO REASON TO SHUT THE WHOLE TERMINAL DOWN. This could been handled in a way where that was not necessary.

The TSA and this whole Draconian Apparatus that has been set up in the name of fighting the Phony "War On Terror" was NEVER MEANT to "Keep Us Safe"

it's about getting you to submit to control. To Condition you to ACCEPT Control and the tyranny that comes along with it.

it's as Phony as the "War On terror" itself.

Are there real terrorists? Yes there are.

But the "War On Terror" is about as big of a joke as the other biggest joke the government ever played on us....

"The War On Drugs"

I am disgusted by the responses in this thread.

I can only hope my comments were not the ones that "reaffirmed your faith in exponential stupidity".

Because I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS.

This country is not only becoming a Police State, it's dumbed down, cowardly citizens are starting to SUPPORT it and DEMAND it.

As George Jetson once said:

"JANE!!!!! STOP THIS CRAZY THING!!!!!"

one thing.

You either aren't informed enough to have the capability to have a serious discussion, or you are too ignorant, willfully or otherwise.

But then again that's what all ignorant people resort to. You can't refute facts or address issues, you just spew personal attacks like a six year old in a sand box, and drool and nod at whatever the Cathode Happy Box tells you, unquestioningly, because you can't be bothered to think for yourself.

Go back to grazing and your conditioning.

You think living in a Police State is cute and funny.

You just love licking the jack boots that "keep you safe".

Just childish.

56. So, when someone goes the wrong way through the exit

You have some psychic ability to know whether they passed a weapon to someone else in the secure area.

Oh I KNOW...

Just ask him why he did it, and if he says it was to kiss his girlfriend goodbye, then everything's cool.

Keep rationalizing, accept the conditioning, give in to the acclamation.

I simply can't believe what I am seeing here on DU.

Tell you what, you want to live in tyranny? You want to live your life like it's a page right out of 1984?

The way things are going, don't worry my "Good Little Obedient Citizen"

You're going to get the chance.

And don't any of you DARE complain or whine when it comes to pass.

It's what you wanted and asked for.

I am in NO WAY defending what this guy did.

There was NO REASON to shut down the entire terminal for this.

And that is the major point most are missing here.

You all act as if I am saying we should have no Airport Security, which is complete bullshit.

None of you seem to get it.

This security apparatus was not designed nor intended to "Keep You Safe."

It's about conditioning you to submit to control.

It's acclamation to a Police State which is implemented incrementally after each "Event" that happens, which is used to ramp it up and expand it.

Where does it end?

America has become a broken nation, with a population of broken people.

WAKE UP.

63. Going through the exit to bypass security has never been legal

...and that's pre-9/11.

I hate to interrupt your rant, but can you explain to me how security was supposed to know this person could not have passed a weapon to someone in the boarding area?

Again, THEY DID NOT HAVE TO SHUT DOWN AN ENTIRE TERMINAL to deal with this situation. It was a brazen overreaction and ridiculous theater. DID THE MAN BREAK THE RULES? Yes, he did. WAS HE IN THE WRONG? yes he was.

Should he face some sort of reasonable penalty, such as a fine, for an irresponsible act?

Most likely.

But arrest him, make him serve hard time, charge him as a terrorist, and even DEPORT HIM, as some idiots have called for?

Render Unto Me A FUCKING BREAK.

The man was irresponsible and foolish for behaving the way he did, especially in such an environment as we have not. He SHOULD have used better judgment, and obviously SHOULD NOT have done what he did.

The insinuations by some that I am DEFENDING this man's action's is so intellectually vacant it's a sad joke.

HOWEVER, perhaps it's time we look at how out of control this system is, and get a handle on our own out of control paranoia and reactionary foolishness.

There is NO REASON to take things to such extremes. They could have chosen a MUCH less dramatic course of action than SHUTTING DOWN AN ENTIRE TERMINAL. That man did not cause that, it's how the TSA CHOSE TO DEAL WITH IT. The situation called for action, but if you're telling me there was no other way to deal with it than shutting down an entire terminal and causing the chaos they did?

Again, PLEASE, just STOP.

And since you are simply going to ignore everything else I said, there is no point in continuing the conversation.

You are comfortable with the way things are, you think it's good, you value "safety" over anything else, and you are willing to ignore the larger picture, and the larger points that have been touched on here.

By all means, continue to be mesmerized by the Phony "War On Terror". The need for Security is valid without question, but when the apparatus that is set up for such carries a different agenda, and whose goal has NOTHING TO DO with "Keeping You Safe", but ulterior and predatory goals of Control, Conditioning, and Acclamation to a lager Police State, then that said SYSTEM does NOT serve the best interests of you, me or ANY of We the People.

And if you think this new "enhanced Screening" is where it's all going to end, you are NAIVE. Where does the line get drawn? How far are we willing to go and how much are we willing to give up for this absolutely fake and artificial "war" on a fucking NOUN, an IDEA?

At this point in our History, Franklin is correct.

We deserve neither, if this is the way we want to live.

I am absolutely AMAZED by the cowardly groupthink in this thread. It's appalling.

The Sheep can Attack me all they want.

The complete lack of respect is BEYOND mutual.

To them I say, Stop being cowardly jellyfish, and PAY ATTENTION to what is happening in your country, and where it is all ultimately going.

I'm done.

How do you find him and assure that he didn't transfer an item to another person? Without making everyone else go through security again, becuase it is not enough to send people out looking for him.

Edited on Sun Jan-10-10 12:23 AM by jberryhill
I've asked you several times and you won't answer.

If one person gets around security, they can deliver an article to another person in the gate area.

You refuse to tell us, oh expert awake non-sheeple, how you deal with that.

It's a simple question. But you rant on and on without addressing it.

59. It's a huge security risk to push all the passengers back into the unsecured terminal area
Terrorist #1 does something like what this guy did.

TSA empties all the passengers in the sterile area of the terminal back into the unsecure area.

Terrorsts # 2, 3, ... detonate suitcase and backpack bombs in the crowded unsecure terminal area.

Massive casualties.

80. Is the guy they arrested the guy in the video? Not clear!
The article is totally confusing. First they name the guy they've arrested for the incident. Then the article ends with:

"A man wearing a light-colored jacket stands inside a rope barrier, and the guard approaches the man, apparently telling him to move behind the rope.

So if the man's identity is a mystery, who is this guy they've arrested, and why isn't he identified as the man in the video?

"Well, if he hadn't tried to help Jews escape, they wouldn't have hanged his sorry ass."

One way or the other, it's the moral obligation and duty of freedom-thinking Americans to say "NO!" to this bullshit.

I, for one, will NEVER fly again until conditions are rolled back to 1965 conditions.

I'll push a peanut with my nose first.
