DETROIT (AP) — South Korean electric car maker CT&T said Tuesday it will begin producing electric cars in the U.S. this year.

The company makes low-speed two-seaters and golf cart-style vehicles as well as the City EV, which can reach 65 miles per hour and travel up to 70 miles on an electric charge. CT&T says the City EV is ideal for small businesses or delivery drivers or for use in retirement communities or small cities. The vehicles recharging cord can be plugged into a standard socket.

CT&T said it plans eventually to produce around 10,000 electric cars per year in the U.S. at 40 manufacturing and distribution centers, starting with centers in South Carolina and California. It didn't reveal prices.

1. I'm going to buy the first electric car that can go from Boston to New York at 80 MPH on one charge.
... can seat 4 people, has air conditioning, power windows, remote keyless entry, and an input for my iPod.

I don't care WHO makes it, but I hope an American company does it first, and they name it after Jimmy Carter.

3. I'm sure the marketers will have an announcement for you soon.
In marketing-world, the range of electric vehicles has been increasing with each announcement, all the way from 230 miles in 1901 to... 70 miles today.

4. Won't be a viable replacement for gas-powered cars
until it can go from L.A. to Las Vegas (280 miles) at highway speeds, either on one charge or a ten-minute-or-less recharge/battery swap.
