Seventh man charged in Richmond rape
Source: Demian Bulwa, San Francisco Chronicle

(01-21) 17:02 PST Richmond -- Prosecutors today filed a rape charge against a 43-year-old Richmond man, saying he joined six younger suspects in the gang rape of a 16-year-old girl outside Richmond High School's homecoming dance in October.

John Crane Jr., who turned himself in to police on Tuesday, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning at the Contra Costa County Superior Court in Richmond. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Crane declined to be interviewed, as did an attorney who helped him surrender.

The other six suspects appeared this afternoon in court, where prosecutor Dara Cashman said she was still waiting for the results of some laboratory tests. She said some of the suspects have been tied to the rape through DNA evidence, but declined to comment further.

If you were wondering what kinds of lowlifes live in the crime-plagued city of Richmond, California, this is it...a grown 40-something joining in the rape of a teenage girl.

2. The article doesn't suggest he was "hanging out"...
as he "declined to be interviewed". Please don't jump to judgment without facts...the American justice system goes by "innocent until proven guilty". Either way what he did was truly vile. He deserves to be isolated from society for eternity.

3. Let's not beat around the bush.
The deserves a shot in the head.

I'm sorry. I don't mean to put words into your mouth. I feel very strongly, however, that people who do things like this deserve the death penalty.

13. I second that
I'm generally against the death penalty. but for cases like this, we do need the death penalty.

5. Possibly a parent?
I am 43 and have teenagers. He could have been a chaperone who decided to have some "fun" with the kids that night.

Personally, making him a eunuch sounds like a good idea to me. :puke:

6. He could have been just a passer-by
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 10:48 PM by Art_from_Ark
The article said that it occurred outside of the high school homecoming dance, which could have been held off-campus, like some of my school's homecoming dances were. At any rate, there is no excuse for taking part in this crime, if indeed he did do it.

14. The fact is...people saw this and did nothing to stop it....
Women are shown to be the prey in almost every movie out there...and they mix sex with violence all the time...no wonder we have kids thinking thats the way to be.
I am not saying its anywhere near right or ok..on the contrary these little vermin need to be put away forever in my book...no getting out to do it again either.
I am just saying..we program a couple of generations with more and more violence and then wonder why things are so violent.
