Rich nations urged to provide $10bn in climate funds
Source: bbc

Brazil, China, India and South Africa have urged wealthy nations to hand over $10bn (£6bn) pledged to poor nations in 2010 to fight climate change.

The group - known as Basic - said the money must be available at once "as proof of their commitment" to address the global challenge.

The plea was issued after a meeting of the four nations in Delhi.

The funds were pledged in a non-binding deal agreed at last year's Copenhagen global climate conference.

4. Doesn't this equate "Holding the Climate Hostage"
Give us your money or we'll pollute to our heart's content.

You do realize the Chinese walked into the summit in Copenhagen and thoroughly undermined the rest of the world's efforts to Carbon Emission Reductions.

5. Truth be told, I haven't had time to read much about it ---
Edited on Sun Jan-24-10 08:42 PM by defendandprotect
including the thread posted here --

I do object to the use of the term "Climate Change" because I think it's

purposefully deceptive.

Our problems are caused by heating up the atmosphere and we have to be clear

about that --

PLUS ... the most important things we can do is change our thinking -- change our

culture -- and IMO move away from capitalism and its exploitation of nature, natural

resources, animal-life -- and even other human beings according to various myths of

inferiority.

Patriarchy, organzed patriarchal religion which is its underpinning -- and capitalism

are all suicidal concepts --

6. Very important reason they use the phrase "Climate Change"
Because after Al Gore released his documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" a number a scientist conclusively proved the climate at the equator was indeed becoming "COOLER".

BUT for EXACTLY the same environmental concerns Al produced his documentary - increased amount of carbon in the atmosphere. In this case the particulate matter in the atmosphere was deflecting the sun's rays AWAY from the earth cooling it at the equator. The same particulate matter in the atmosphere that was reflecting the Suns ray into the polar ice caps, was indeed deflecting it away from the equator.

But.......

This became the reason so many used to dispute Al's work, and throw it out entirely

So it becomes brutally important to be correct. The dissenters will use any excuse, no matter how minute, to toss out the whole body of work

7. Global Warming -- The Heat is ON! -- should stay . . .
and the "cooling" has to do with the concept of an "Earth in balance" --

an automatic -- We HEAT everything up and nature is trying to cool things down.

But the problem remains HEAT --

If you've ever listened to Sen. Inhofe -- he thinks that snow being dumped is a sign

that Global Warming is over --

Rather the lack of snow at the Great Lakes now causes the winds to pick up moisture

as they pass over and then DUMP it all as snow --

Again -- the right wing are suicidal --

anything for money and power!!

9. No thanks....
Not going to happen. If countries like Brazil, India and China are waiting on the recession wracked West to pony up billions of dollars so they can sign on to what is effectively a non-binding climate change deal that won't accomplish a thing - well, they've got another thing coming.

This is a complete non starter.

10. 10 billion? That's a drop in the bankster's bucket
what's our survival worth? Obviously less than Goldman Sacks and AIG's ability to gamble our taxpayer dollars away. We've become a sick, misguided species.
