Salt Lake GOP cancels scheduled O'Keefe keynote
Edited on Wed Jan-27-10 03:34 AM by Turborama
Source: Salt Lake Tribune

Salt Lake County Republicans are scrambling to line up a new keynote fundraising speaker after the arrest Tuesday of their scheduled first choice, filmmaker James O'Keefe, on charges of attempting to tamper with the phone system of a U.S. Senator.

"The allegations and arrest today certainly changes our plans," county GOP Chairman Thomas Wright said in a telephone interview with The Tribune . "We'll be announcing a new speaker shortly."

As of Tuesday night, the party's Web site, slcogop.com, still advertised O'Keefe as the guest speaker for the party's Feb. 4 Lincoln Day Dinner. His topic was to be "his national exposé of ACORN's unethical behavior, his changes in Congress and (how he will) inspire our Party's passion for a grassroots comeback."

The fundraising announcement said donations of from $4,000 to $7,500 would entitle contributing groups to have access to elected Republican officials and the guest speaker at a VIP reception. Wright said the web site and other promotions would be altered soon to reflect a change. "We're disappointed," he said of O'Keefe's arrest on felony charges. "He doesn't necessarily represent the Republican Party."

"He doesn't necessarily represent the Republican Party."

Interesting use of the word "necessarily". Especially when he was going to be the keynote speaker at a GOP fundraiser and part of his topic was on inspiring "our Party's passion for a grassroots comeback".

curtail our own tampering with U.S. Senators' phone systems.

I guess I always feared this day would come.

21. What ever happened to his partner in crime Ms. Hanna Giles?
Maybe she got tired of his videos making it look like she's riding his disco stick the second the camera goes off. But then again some people prostitute themselves money. Others prostitute themselves for fame. But either way I'm sure daddy Giles is proud Mr. Keefe has made his daughter a whore for the fame monster.

I'm sure his bail agent will be glad to hear that. But I was hoping to see the Dog go after him. I can hear Dog now. This guy is a pervert that thinks Child prostitution is a game. I would love to see Beth in his face screaming. You BEEP pervert! You think Child Prostitution is a practical joke? You confuse me. 22. He embodies today's Republican Party
1.) He presents himself as a "conservative"
2.) He has no respect for people or the law
3.) He loves the limelight, except when committing a felony
4.) He is adored by Fox "News"

Sounds like the very essence of today's Republican Party.

What part of the above is NOT representative of them?

24. Add to the list - HE IS AS ARROGANT AS ANY REPUBLICAN. These Repub
drama kings and queens are riding a high that only they understand.

I think he should be called Karl O'Keefe.

Now they call him a filmmaker.

In reality, before we spend all this time on him we should go back into his past.

He probably now has an agent, if Blackwell isn't arranging it.

although it's nice to see that they're doing something with their time aside from lynching queers and fucking prostitutes.

Incidentally, how were the people of MA ignorant enough to vote for these guys?

"The fundraising announcement said donations of from $4,000 to $7,500 would entitle contributing groups to have access to elected Republican officials and the guest speaker at a VIP reception"

lol...I'm a student and I wish my net worth was that much...Good thing We have a good progressive NDP MP here, who unlike (most) Liberals, (all) Tories, (most) Dems, and (all) Repukes, doesn't need to be purchased for his time and his ear.

35. He doesn't have to
inspire the repug party for a grassroots comeback. He is only doing what they have practiced for years.Didn't Dubya order some illegal wiretapping.Don't they always try and disguise their message with a bunch of phony rhetoric.Just what did he do different.Except get caught redhanded doing repug behavior. When he dressed as a pimp, and behaved as if he was into brokering women in my opinion the police should have been called and he should have been in those beautiful silver bracelets. And I do know that there were some who reported him after his departure out of their office at the various locations of ACORN.But he would have sent red flags to the average person. In the real world nobody ever would have believed that wet nosed skinny two beers short of a six pack ass boy could be a pimp.He may be simpin' but not pimpin':P :P :P

This one caught my eye...

roobah: 1/27/2010 3:46:00 AM

I wondered if I was the only one who saw irony in the fact that the Salt Lake County Republican party would bring forth a "guest speaker" who rocketed to fame by exposing corruption through video and audio, at the same time they smash down locals corruption activists who expose GOP corruption of the Salt Lake County GOP through blogging, audio & video.

NO, actually, SLGOP... I think you should STILL have O'Keefe as your guest of honor -- bringing on a potential alleged felon as your guest speaker is more fitting for such a corrupt organization. It is deliciously and ironically funny that you ever chose him in the first place (I am DYING to know whose idea this was -- ROFL).

MORE Irony: Inviting O'Keefe to speak the very same night that Mike Ridgway will be streaming live on the 'net "Advanced Training for Conservative Activists: How the Utah GOP is corrupt as Hell and cheats and what you can do about it." The irony of those two juxtaposed events is just TOO funny.

The difference is that while Mike's training is FREE, while the Salt Lake Co GOP will be extorting $120+ per ticket for attendance to hear O'Keefe speak. THAT is too funny.

Could we relocate Mike's Activist Training Event to the heart of corruption (Salt Lake County GOP) during your Lincoln Day Dinner and stream it live over the 'net... pretty please? What do you say Thomas Wright? Rick Votaw? Good idea or GREAT idea? How about a call, boys? Time to turn this corrupt political machine around don't you think? How about a little corruption exposure, yourself, hmmm boys?

God indeed has a sense of humor and he is trying to say something to you corrupt GOP officers. I got the joke, WHEN will you? I better stop before my laughing to tears rocks me right off my chair. Come on funny boys (Wright / Votaw) Whatcha gonna Dole up next for us to keep the entertainment value worth that $120 ticket? Can't WAIT to see what's next!

GWL says: You just CAN'T make this stuff up
