Toyota adds 1 million vehicles to recall
Source: CNN

Toyota announced Wednesday night that it is adding another 1.1 million vehicles to an an earlier 4.2 million vehicle recall originally announced in November.

The vehicles now being added to that recall are the 2008-2010 Highlander, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Venza 2009-2010 Matrix, 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe.

General Motors' Pontiac car is included in the recall because the Vibe and Toyota's Matrix are similar vehicles that were produced under a partnership between the two companies.

The vehicles originally included in this recall were the 2007-2010 Toyota Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Tundra and the 2007-2010 Lexus ES350, 2006-2010 and the 2006-2010 IS250 and IS350

1. So basically every car Toyota made between 2008 and 2010
plus select models dating back to 2004.

It looks like the pickups aren't covered yet, but Toyota's pickups have had problems of their own--you know they glued the tailgates together instead of welding them on at least one year of pickup production.

3. What then will the DU car-buying public EVER do?
Half these folks think the only car to buy is a Toyota.

Once I graduate from my retraining in the service I'm going to buy a NEW car...anyone know anything about the Ford Transit Connect? That looks like the car for me.

6. Yup. Toyota says to expand vehicle recall to Europe
Edited on Thu Jan-28-10 04:14 AM by Ghost Dog
TOKYO, Jan 28 (AFP) - Toyota Motor said Thursday that it would expand a huge safety recall due to an accelerator pedal problem to Europe, a move likely to further tarnish the world number one's reputation for quality.

"Toyota will implement a recall in Europe," said company spokesman Paul Nolasco. "We are still not sure about the models and the number of vehicles."

The move expands a recall announced last week by Toyota of 2.3 million cars and trucks because of problems with sticking accelerator pedals.

The company said that in rare cases, the pedal mechanism could become worn and harder to depress or stuck in a partially depressed position.

According to Japanese media, Toyota is expected to recall two million vehicles in Europe due to the problem, the latest in a series of quality issues to bedevil the Japanese giant.

I'd been going to say, this seems to only affect vehicles "made in america", but knew I should double-check first.

If this doesn't affect older vehicles, such as our 2004 RAV4 (I hope), then this would seem to imply over-zealous cost-cutting design and/or manufacturing specification and/or quality control problems in recent years.

Are these pedal mechanisms manufactured by Toyota in-house, or are they outsourced, does anyone know?

Nb. For myself, I always buy Peugeot.

9. The pedals...
are made by another company to Toyota specifications (the cars production is halted on). This same company makes pedals for Nissan, Hyundai, and Honda with no problems.

Every single car Toyota makes is under some sort of recall right now.

10. How Long Did Toyota Know About The Problem?
How many Toyotas were involved in accidents whose cause was the gss pedal?

How msny of those accidents involved fatalities?

This could turn out to be criminal.

Not only is the company screwed but so are the owners.

With this announcement all of the identified vehicles won't be worth crap for a trade-in.
