Nelson (D-Ne): No plans to hang up in 2012

LINCOLN — U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson says there's plenty of fight left in him.

The Nebraska Democrat, whose job approval rating has dropped below 50 percent, told The World-Herald on Thursday that he expects to seek re-election in two years.

“I can stand the heat, so I'm staying in the kitchen,” Nelson said in an interview.

He added: “I have no plans to hang it up in 2012.”

I can only imagine the level of frustration you must feel with the schmuck Nelson. I on the other hand, am represented in part by Senator Lieberman.

What you need to remember is that a Nebraska "Democrat" is actually a moderate Republican, at best. I'll admit, Nelson is about as far right as we've ever had (he's anti-abortion, etc.). But even if he's challenged in the primary, the Democrat who replaces him will be just as bad.

And a Republican who replaces him will be even worse.

BTW, thank you for your condolences. I live my life wearing a paper bag over my head because of Ben Nelson.

challenging Nelson as an Independent or from the Democratic party?

Believe me, Lieberman is a disgrace in this state, so I understand the paper bag thing too.

6. I have some friends from Nebraska. They tell me that the general sense

in their state is that Nelson is toast. They believe that the next person who runs against him (Republican or Democrat) will win. My friends think that if another Dem gets the nomination, they stand a good chance of holding the seat for the party. If this is true, the Nebraska Democratic Party would be smart to find a good candidate to replace Nelson.
