Honda recalls 646,000 Fits for fire hazard
Source: CNN

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Honda announced a recall for 646,000 2007 and 2008 Fit, City and Jazz models worldwide, after a fire hazard involving a power window switch resulted in a death in South Africa.

In an e-mailed statement, Honda said extreme amounts of liquid, such as rain or melted snow, can flood the master power window switch on the driver's side, causing the vehicle to overheat.

The recall affects 141,000 Fit models in the United States, where the malfunctioning switch caused seven vehicles to overheat and two to catch fire. Honda said there were no reports of injuries in the United States.

The Fit is sold as the City and Jazz in international markets.

2. Shit happens
I've no recollection of any issues being as serious as those with the Pintos back in the seventies when the problem with the location of the fuel tank was ignored by Ford them having figured that the cost of correction would cost more than likely paypouts for death and serious injuries etc. aka cost benefit analysis.

5. Or the Chevy Vegas.
The shittiness of which were a direct result of union busting and ridiculous CBA.

They didn't blow up, but it wasn't much fun to have parts falling off your car every time you hit a pothole either.

3. Corporations who kill people with their products should be tried for murder.
or manslaughter or negligence as a minimum. If something I made killed my neighbor, I would be tried. If corporations are people too, then they should be regulated by the laws that regulate people.

6. The Honda Fit isn't having that problem in Japan. Interesting, isn't it?
Could that mean it's the Fits that are BUILT HERE IN THE U.S.?

8. It's a good thing to ask questions and get facts. Unless you're afraid of the answers.
Yes, it crossed my mind that US workers screwed up putting it together. It ALSO crossed my mind that Honda and Toyota deliberately lowered their standards for the U.S. market.

Either way...the question needs to be answered. Clearly, their cars for Japan are NOT being made the same way they are for the U.S. and maybe other countries.
