Services sectors show best growth in two years
Source: marketwatch

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - The services sectors of the U.S. economy grew at the fastest pace in two years in February, according to a survey of companies released Wednesday by the Institute for Supply Management.

The ISM non-manufacturing index rose to 53% in February from 50.5% in January, the best since December 2007.

Readings over 50% indicate that more firms said business was getting better than said it was worsening.

Economists surveyed by MarketWatch were looking for the index to rise to 51%. Read our complete economic calendar.

The ISM non-manufacturing index had been in a narrow range between 48% and 51% since August, a sign of an economy that's struggling to pull out of recession.

1. This is the future.
There will be less manufacturing in the U.S. next year, five years from now, and 25 years from now.

The services part of the economy will continue to grow, as manufacturing declines.

2. See? Who said the rich don't create jobs
The rich need more and more services and servants. Pool people to clean their pools and landscapers to trim their vast lawns and housekeepers and cooks and chambermaids and chauffeurs and personal shoppers and caterers and bartenders for their parties and clowns for their childrens' parties and nannies. There's lots and lots of service jobs to be had. Especially with the multiple homes they have.

5. We happily hired a painter to do our house this week.
He showed up Sunday to pressure wash, then early Monday to repair the stucco cracks and it was fully painted (including doors and trim) by 2:30 in the afternoon. He's done numerous other houses in this area and you have to get on a 3 month waiting list because he's so good and yet very reasonable. Every one of his workers are locals, he's completely licenses/insured/bonded, etc. He just knows his shit and is as picky as can be but his workers all seemed to really like him and had been with him for a long time.

9. Yes - but the "Service Sector" based economy is what got us here
Americans can't just run around servicing each other while Trade Surpluses in the $Billions continue to flow OUT of this country.

This was a BIG part of why the economy crashed and why the Bush administration allowed and encouraged the Housing Bubble, CDSs, and Mortgage Derivatives to be sold on a Global scale. The Bush Administration and America needed a means to fund 2 wars, and the reckless Bush Tax cuts while being insolvent due to Free Trade Policies

14. Service corps with USA citizen servicers or overseas call center types, I wonder.
Since everyone I know who has been out of work, is still out of work, and the local ads for jobs are about 80% commission sales people, and 20% minimum wage caretakers. . . I'm thinking the service section profits (ie growth) is representative of outsourcing, not US jobs.
