("Fox News") Exclusive: Unknown DOJ Lawyers Identified
Source: Fox News

A day after a conservative group released a video condemning the Justice Department for refusing to identify seven lawyers who previously represented or advocated for terror suspects, Fox News has uncovered the identities of the seven lawyers.

The names were confirmed by a Justice Department spokesman, who said "politics has overtaken facts and reality" in a tug-of-war over the lawyers' identities.

"Department of Justice attorneys work around the clock to keep this country safe, and it is offensive that their patriotism is being questioned," said Justice Department Spokesman Matt Miller.

The video by the group Keep America Safe, which dubbed the seven lawyers "The Al Qaeda 7," is the latest salvo in a lengthty political battle.

...

"Why the secrecy?" asks the video from Keep America Safe, which is run by Liz Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, Debra Burlingame, whose brother was killed in the 9/11 attacks, and Bill Kristol, a Fox News contributor.

...

The Obama Administration is not the first to hire lawyers who represented or advocated for terror suspects.

Pratik Shah, an assistant to the Solicitor General hired by the Bush Administration, was part of the WilmerHale team that put together arguments for the Boumediene v. Bush case.

5. God, I wish she would just find a real job somewhere, maybe picking up
the garbage or working for a living actually doing something PRODUCTIVE.

But, given her father's history, and her mother's books, and all that background baggage of lies and deception, hypocrisy, and whatever, I doubt she will ever amount to much, but will be paid well by Fox News.

6. Exactly What FOX would report
From this ridiculous Al-Quaeda 7 to "communist healthcare" from Obama, it's precisely the kind of ridiculous stuff that gets reported as "news" on FOX. Without FOX, would any Cheney have a career?

8. John Adams anyone ?????
Glenn Greenwald had great piece today about this ad. The update from comments was on point as well:

UPDATE: Several commenters here made the same point that Col. Davis made to Ackerman: that John Adams, as a lawyer, defended British soldiers accused of brutal crimes committed during the Boston Massacre. Adams called his defense of those enemy soldiers "one of the most gallant, generous, manly, and disinterested actions of my whole life, and one of the best pieces of service I ever rendered my country." Imagine the ads Liz Cheney and Bill Kristol would have produced about him. As always, those who most flamboyantly and shrilly anoint themselves Arbiters of American Patriotism wage the most vicious wars on its core principles.

Justice Department on So-called ”Al Qaeda Seven”: We Will Not Participate in An Attempt to Drag People’s Names Through the Mud

For several weeks, Republican lawmakers and a conservative group have been attacking the Justice Department for refusing to reveal the names of nine officials who have in some way advocated for or represented detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

"The administration has made many highly questionable decisions when it comes to national security, " Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in a recent statement, arguing that the public has “a right to know who advises the Attorney General and the President on these critical matters."

Attorney General Eric Holder identified two of the attorneys in question: Principal Deputy Solicitor General Neal Katyal and National Security Division Attorney Jennifer Daskal. Katyal won the Supreme Court case Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, challenging the legality of President Bush’s military commissions; Dascal worked for Human Rights Watch.

Fox News’s Mike Levine today identified the other seven, which the Justice Department confirmed:
