Roadside Bomb Kills Five Amid Iraq Early Voting

Five civilians were killed by a roadside bomb today as Iraqi security forces, prison inmates, and the infirm took part in early voting ahead of parliamentary elections on March 7.

The blast occurred in northwestern Baghdad near a voting center.

Election organizers say they expect up to 800,000 people who will not be able to go to polling stations on March 7 to cast ballots in early voting.

Iraqi expatriates will begin voting in 80 cities across 16 countries on March 5.

The election on March 7 is Iraq's second parliamentary vote since the U.S.-led invasion to oust Saddam Hussein in 2003.

A suicide bomber has attacked a polling station in Baghdad killing at least three soldiers and wounding 15 others, it has been reported.

Early voting has begun for hundreds of thousands of government employees in Iraq's parliamentary elections.

Earlier in the day, another blast killed five and wounded 10 people near a polling station.

On Wednesday three suicide bombers attacked police and a hospital in Baquba, killing at least 30 people.

There were conflicting accounts of the first bomb in north-west Baghdad.
