By Joseph Morton

WASHINGTON — Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., said Wednesday that he'll push to use unspent funding from last year's economic stimulus package to pay for part of a pending $100 billion jobs bill.

His comments during a conference call with reporters renewed his sparring with Gov. Dave Heineman, whom Republican leaders would like to see challenge Nelson in 2012.

The jobs bill includes extensions of unemployment benefits and higher Medicare payments to doctors, as well as additional Medicaid support for states and the continuation of various tax breaks for individuals and businesses.

Nelson said the unemployment extension qualifies as emergency help for Nebraskans struggling to find work in a down economy.

1. I am just wondering
Nelson, Nebraska (or midwest) and jobs funding.

Considering that Tyson, Hormel, Cargill, Farmland and Swift with large meat packing industries in Nebraska which have become inundated with migrant and illegal workers.

I wonder how much of that money Ben is trying to get for them?

I could be wrong and I hope that I am, but history being what it is, I have my doubts.

2. Part Of That Sounds Like
The Nelson amendment in the Health Care bill that will be stripped by reconciliation. In other words, an earmark.
