Exclusive: RNC document mocks donors, plays on 'fear'
Source: politico.com

The Republican National Committee plans to raise money this election cycle through an aggressive campaign capitalizing on “fear” of President Barack Obama and a promise to "save the country from trending toward socialism."

The strategy was detailed in a confidential party fundraising presentation, obtained by POLITICO, which also outlines how “ego-driven” wealthy donors can be tapped with offers of access and “tchochkes.”

"What can you sell when you do not have the White House, the House, or the Senate...?" it asks.

The answer: "Save the country from trending toward Socialism!”

One page, headed “The Evil Empire,” pictures Obama as the Joker from Batman, while House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid are depicted as Cruella DeVille and Scooby Doo, respectively.

7. Leaked documents reveal GOP plan to use scare tactics to raise money
Source: Yahoo

National GOP leaders are doing damage control today after a Politico scoop lifted the curtain on the party's plan to tap voters' "fear" in the coming campaign season. The PR problem started when an absent-minded attendee at the Republican National Committee (RNC) confab on February 18 in Boca Grande, Florida, left a 72-page document from its 2010 strategizing session in a hotel room. Today, Politico reporter Ben Smith's expose is making headlines.

The memo tracks the fundraising presentation that RNC Finance Director Rob Bickhart delivered to the RNC's $2,500-a-head annual retreat. The best path to victory in 2010, the document advises, is for Republican candidates to depict themselves as the best hope for resisting the "trending toward socialism" taking shape in a Democrat-dominated Washington.

* * *
The presentation portrays the Obama administration as "The Evil Empire," including the now-infamous image of President Obama made over in the makeup Heath Ledger used in his performance as the Joker in the 2008 Batman movie "The Dark Knight." House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appears as Cruella De Vil from "101 Dalmatians," and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is the witless cartoon dog Scooby-Doo. The memo candidly confirms that the aim of such caricature is to amp up "fear" among the GOP's conservative base. The memo also makes fun of major RNC donors, categorizing some as "ego-driven" and easily pacified with "tchochkes" (a Slavic word for toys).

The embrace of harsh rhetoric and the swipes at the large donor set seem to signal the GOP establishment's growing comfort with employing tactics associated with the activist Tea Party movement—and with plying Tea Party sympathizers for cash. Of course, it isn't unusual for parties out of power to court controversy and play with fire to rile up donors and grass-roots activists. The RNC has caught heat for fundraising tactics in the past, most recently when it was caught sending out fake census forms to raise money. And Democrats have shown a demagogic streak in the past, depicting George W. Bush and Dick Cheney as Bond-like supervillains and playing up alleged GOP plans to kill Social Security to rally voters behind a popular entitlement program.

10. What is incredible is that midterm elections are always decided by the base.
Most people don't bother to vote in midterm elections. So midterm elections are essentially a battle between the die-hards in one party and the other. The fanatics. The hard core. The committed. You always win a midterm election by energizing the base.

PERIOD.

The GOP is doing this, riling up their fanatics. President Obama and Rahm - "Ramen noodle - the wet noodle" - Emanuel are all busy trying to be "middle of the road" and nauseatingly boring and centrist.

Labor now is infuriated with Obama too. That was exactly how Truman lost Congress to the GOP. Under pressure from the GOP for being too favorable to "communist unions" he turned against the unions for political "gain," workers stayed home and we lost Congress to the GOP.

What is incredible is that the wimpy centrists in the White House are fighting the wrong battle, bringing a knife to a gun fight as usual. They are acting like this is a presidential election, not a midterm election and they are not energizing or relating to the Democratic base.

This is a fool's game and absolutely suicidal for the Democrats.

Rahm, Obama and all those around them are WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS WIMPS!

They don't care about reality, they are willing to get IN THE MIDDLE of anything, no matter how insane. What good is it to be in the middle of the road if the entire road is all the way over on the right side of the universe?

If you were alive during the Holocaust that killed 6 million Jews, would you offer Hitler a compromise, saying, "I'll spot you 3 million. WE'LL COMPROMISE. I'll let you kill 3 million instead of 6 million and we'll call it a deal big fella!"

Yet this is sort of the insanity in letting the GOP move as far to the right as they can and constantly running after them to find middle ground.

The Democratic Party is in BIG TROUBLE because we are weak, weak, weak and don't draw lines in the sand and just want to look namby pamby at all cost. That they are perfectly happy to screw the base shows what weak fools they are.

The GOP is fighting, riling up their base with red meat while we invite them to our positive thinking seminars and disappoint our base to tears. In this election don't be surprised if HUGE numbers of Democrats just don't BOTHER to vote while the Goopers all show up in droves at the polling stations, toting shotguns and utterly SWAMP the Democrats and take over.

Watch. If they get control of Capitol Hill the second half of the Obama presidency will be one long nightmare of the GOP IMPEACHING him for jaywalking and calling it a communist plot.

And meanwhile the Democrats have done NOTHING to reign in the Supreme Court after it ENDED DEMOCRACY AS WE KNOW IT by allowing corporations unlimited money to buy elections. If the shoe was on the other foot the GOP would be shrieking that the Supreme Court is EVIL and making an issue out of it.

But no. We have to be MIDDLE OF THE ROAD regardless of where that road is or where it is taking us!

If this continues the Democratic party and all it stands for is DOOMED. The planet is going off a cliff with global warming but Obama has more important things to worry about, more important to be SURE, killing the public option to please corporations. In the end all those corporations are going to stab the Democrats in the back ANYWAY so why appease them all?

Understand. Rahm comes from the same school of thought and the same DLC crowd that enabled President Clinton to lose the Congress to the GOP. This is the weakest Democratic party since, well, why, since Clinton with his NAFTA etc.

This is a weak, weak, weak, wimpy, wimpy, wimpy party that hides under the desk and in the closet instead of fighting like the GOP. They energize their base and we don't.

We voted for a new hope but all we got is a rerun of all the same mistakes Clinton made that cost us control of Washington and installed corporate fascists into control, headed by Bush from a pro-Nazi family. These people are nothing but GOP enablers. The GOP fights, we don't.

13. Bunning Just Shut Down Unemployment...
The right wingers are out and about denying global warming, and trying to shut down benefits, and you think that the Democrats need to invent crap to get the liberal base motivated?

The GOP is just trying to shut down the federal government to the detriment of our economy and national security, and the Democrats need to come up with a better PR plan?

Please. If we can't see the truth beyond the corporate media spin about socialism, then we need a little more help than a nifty PR strategy.

15. Were you referring to me when you said "you think"?
When did I say we had to do the same thing?

All I'm saying is they energize their base and we don't.

In the words of Harry Truman, who was called "Give 'em hell Harry," "I give them the TRUTH and they THINK it's hell."

The problem is today's Democrats don't give them ANYTHING.

They plead, they beg, they whimper. Because they're wimps. They plead that they want the GOP to come over and play pattycake. Anything for "moderation." Since when does not being moderate constitute lying?

You are implying that not being moderate and wishy-washy is somehow lying.

All I'm saying is that Democrats are WIMPS.

What part of that do you not understand?

A word of advice:

Always engage brain before putting mouth into gear.

16. The power of nightmares.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/3755686.stm

In the past our politicians offered us dreams of a better world. Now they promise to protect us from nightmares. But just as the dreams were not true, neither are these nightmares.
