Daughter of Dick Cheney considering running for office
Source: UK telegraph

Liz Cheney, a mother of five children, has become one of the sharpest and most outspoken critics of the new White House and has needled the Obama administration for failing to protect the nation against terrorism, and mollycoddling terror suspects while pursuing government lawyers who approved water-boarding, a method of inquisition she approves of. She called the president's Nobel Peace prize a "farce".

Pushed by friends and family, Ms Cheney is now reportedly contemplating a run for office herself either in Virginia, where she was raised, or in Wyoming, her parents' home state.

A former senior state department official on the Middle East, the 43-year-old has already attracted favourable comparisons with as a more substantive version of Sarah Palin, another conservative working mother.

"She's likely to seek office," was the judgment of Karl Rove, the former chief adviser to George W Bush.

"I'd love to see her run for office someday," said her father, 69, recently. "I think she's got a lot to offer, and it's been a great career for me, and if she has the interest, and I think she does, then I would like to see her embark upon a career in politics."

Unfortunately, I think she could be readily elected from WY
Edited on Mon Mar-08-10 01:14 PM by hlthe2b
the crop of candidates that the state produces are overwhelmingly RETHUG (even if they wear a "D") and largely exceedingly ignorant. Barasso, RETHUG Senator may be a physician (and I dont think he is classically "stupid"), but he is wantonly ignorant. Mike Enzi, the other RETHUG Senator is of a simiar nature, though probably even less informed. And, that is on the Senate side...

While Wyoming only has one representative, RETHUG Barbara Cubin is probably one of the most ignorant woman you'd ever meet. She doesn't get the notoriety of the more public idiots, like Michele Backmann or that old fruitcake from VA (Viriginia RETHUG, Virigina Foxx), but believe me, she is equally stupid.

SO, Cheney could readily bamboozle her way in, I would guess.

7. Of course she could
It's not like the Cheney name is tarnished by war crimes or the inherently corrupt unitary executive ideology...Oh, no...the Cheney name is merely linked to "policy" differences.

8. Reminiscent of the old Johhny Rivers song, "The Snake"
Avoiding a poisonous snake may not work, but cuddling up to them in hopes they will change, never does. Our failure to prosecute "Shooter" is akin to carrying (and tenderly caring for) the snake.. When will we ever learn?

On the way to work one morning
down the path along side the lake
A tender hearted woman
saw a poor half-frozen snake

His pretty colored skin
had been all frosted with the dew
"Oh, well" she cried, "I'll take you in
and I'll take care of you."

CHORUS

Take me in tender woman
Take me in for heaven's sake
Take me in tender woman
SSSSiiiiggghhhhed the SSSSSSnake

She wrapped him up all cozy
in a comforter of silk
and then laid him by the fireside
with some honey and some milk

She hurried home from work that night
and as soon as she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taken in
had been revived.

Chorus

She clutched him to her bosom
"You're so beautiful" she cried
"but if I hadn't brought you in
by now you might have died."

Well she stroked his pretty skin again
and then kissed him really tight,
but instead of saying thanks,
the snake gave her a vicious bite.

Chorus

"I saved you!" cried that woman
"and you've bitten me but why?"
"you know your bite is poisonous
and now I'm gonna die."

"Ha ha, shut up, silly woman."
said that reptile with a grin.
"You knew darn well I was a snake
before you took me in."

Chorus

Oh, you better take me in ssssssiiiiigggghhhed the Snake.

Uh....she's from MY state....NC. (Yes there is a difference between VA, NC, and SC.) but VA can have her.

And WY.... another one of those empty western welfare states that those of us on the coasts support.

37. Sorry.... I had her and the equally repugnant Rethug Rep from VA
confused in terms of their districts (actually Virginia has a slew of them, but I was thinking of the appropriately named Jim Moran).

While I am a Coloradoan, I will somewhat dispel your notion of Wyoming. Despite their getting far more than their population based share of Federal Highway dollars and a few other things (bio terrorism funds come to mind), given its rich mineral and oil reserves, Wyoming is actually one of those "empty western states" that is far more self-sustaining than most in any region. One of the few that has not seen severe recessionary budget cuts (sadly NOT the case for my own state, Colorado which is bleeding red ink).

I actually lived for many years in Virginia, vacationed frequently in NC and SC, so I am quite aware of the differences, even if I can't keep all their congressional reps straight. But, why the major chip on the shoulder, my DU friend?

22. Did anyone doubt this was ALSO the reason for DICK'S nonstop barrage of TV appearences?
Not to mention his surprise visit to the CPAC convention, presumably in exchange for letting Liz be a speaker. And also setting up this silly PAC that lists her as a co-founder, that runs anti-Obama ads about the GITMO 7 that are so sleazy that even fellow Republicans are embarrassed.

13. Any Cheney hurts the GOP - by putting an easy, snide target up for public attack

I say go ahead and run - we need more obnoxious, self-absorbed GOP targets to point at during the elections in states where it is too close to call - because she'd never win in one of those states, but other Democrats just might.

Thanks Liz - we owe you one

In this case I will make an exception.

Every dirty and criminal act her daddy dearest perpetrated needs to be dragged out of the closet and used on this candidate.

She needs to be stopped where she stands and not allowed to continue the Cheney legacy.

They both don't want to be elected, they want the money they can earn by running for office.

It's not like either of them can support themselves without a handout.

19. Liz doesn't like to work
but she enjoys the limelight. Several years ago, she was on secondment from her law firm to the legal department where I work - before she went over to the State Department and the position that they created for her. All she ever seemed to do was arrange fund raisers for the GOP, even when she was supposed to be working on projects. Once I was assigned along with Liz to work with a more senior attorney on, IIRC, an aquaculture project in Central America. We had a meeting with the attorney who explained the deal and also said that a few issues had popped up during the on-site inspection that were being resolved. Until then, there wasn't much to do. I ran into Liz a week or so later and asked if there had been any developments on the project. She looked somewhat confused then said very quickly that she didn't know, she had been busy with other things. Our head at the time had given Liz an office right next to hers (not the standard secondees' working spaces by any means, but when your secondee is the daughter of the vice president elect, well, you know - allowances have to be made) and they shared a secretary. I asked her one time what Liz did all day and she told me that as far as she knew she spent her time working on fund raisers for the Republicans and fund raisers for some of our department head's personal interests. A few weeks later, after the first Bush inauguration, an announcement came out that Liz was being taken off project work entirely (not that she ever did much of it in the first place) and reassigned to the department head's office to handle community outreach.

there are plenty of R's that think that way. Most don't know how to use a shovel, My Rep, Fortenberry,(R, 1st District, NE) would look for where you put the key into the handle...

WY might actually elect her, but there are no spots open, she'd have to wait, and she thinks she's too important to wait. VA would probably see her a a carpetbagger...all things considered, I don't think she has much of a chance...add the cheney name, w/only gonorrhea a point ahead of her dad in popularity, and she's a loser...:hi:

20. We called them a Deferment Baby in the '60s
Deferment babies were not born out of a love connection. We called it "humping the hog" when draft dodging cowards like Cheney would have a baby, which was required for draft deferment in the '67/'68 time frame. Lizzie is one of those deferment babies.

44. "Daughter of Dracula" Chris Matthews on Liz Cheney!
Lol, he got the whole rightwing blogosphere mad at him.

He seems to have been influenced by Alan Grayson, who said this about Cheney last November:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/1109/Grayson__Cheney__Dracula__500000.html

Alan Grayson's "Money Bomb" fundraising pitch -- which likened Dick Cheney to Halloween vampires and plastic bats, has garnered $510,679, according to the Florida Democrat's website.

In an email to backers yesterday, Grayson wrote, ""Two nights ago, on Halloween, every time I saw a plastic bat or child dressed up as a vampire, it reminded me: Dick Cheney has still not been held accountable... What really scares me, and I'm sure scares you too, is the possibility Dick Cheney gets to creep around the lecture circuit and TV studios - and gets to avoid the sunlight of a serious inquiry."

The predictions that if these war criminals were not held accountable we would see even worse crimes in the future, was not an empty threat. The Bushes and Cheneys have a whole other generation waiting to take over.

Cheney's daughter has Rove on her side. She probably isn't worried about winning. Another criminal who has been allowed to walk free and is still operating against this country's interests as a result. I wonder what it will it take?
