Pelosi says House has votes for healthcare if vote were held today
By Michael O'Brien - 03/10/10 12:05 PM ET

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) suggested Tuesday evening that Democrats would have the votes to pass healthcare legislation if it were taken up today.

Pelosi, in an interview with Bloomberg and PBS host Charlie Rose, hinted that she could pass Democrats' healthcare plans through the House if they were brought up this week.

"Yes," Pelosi said when asked if she believed the House would end up having the votes to approve healthcare.

"If we took it up today, yes," the Speaker quickly added.

13. Yeah I'm surprised she hasn't decided to call a vote
Apparently they got the 50 votes+1 for the Senate reconciliation bill. I don't know if she's waiting on the final language or what. But we'll see.

24. It should be the same as the Senate bill, unless they are waiting
on the CBO estimates on the reconciliation amendments.

6. How many times has she said that it is close? Hard to believe it anymore, but hopefully she has the
votes this time. Now, when? Last we heard was "Easter". Anybody for "Memorial Day"?

8. I would be thrilled if this were true
while the bill falls far short of what I'd want, it would be great from a PR standpoint for the Democrats. And, even better if we can get a public option in there.

challengers!

Gee, that's right, all the big states deadlines are in March through the end of April.. Calif. I believe March 12th..Florida April 30th I believe..seems Nancyyyyy has to protect those voting for this shitty bill to make sure they don't get primary challengers!

This is their big damn chess game folks..

If Nancy has the votes..then why not vote now Nancyyyyyyy?

Oh... you promised the dems voting for shit on a shingle bill they won't get challenged ..right Nancyyyyyyyyy?????

Thought so..this bill will not get voted on until the deadlines in the big states pass for registering for primaries against sitting congress people..count on that!!

Again..California..March 12th..Florida April 30th..look up the other big states..NY..Texas..Ill...go ahead look them up..and tell me when the vote will be..My estimate..after the Florida deadline..of April 30th.

19. As you are against it, why are you so agitated?
The fact is that until the CBO estimate comes in and is ok, the promises from Senate leaders on teh reconciliation are subject to an "if".

14. It's looking like we are very close to getting a bill passed, and..
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 06:52 PM by mvd
that's a positive. People are dying and suffering without insurance, and I do not want to delay forever. Look, I am so against the insurance companies that I'd almost vote against the Senate bill. I am very frustrated that our Party couldn't do better! But the Senate bill is the quickest and easiest way forward, IF the promises to make changes through reconciliation are kept. I sense Obama is taking a different point of view now and will support changes, including the public option. It's a leap of faith.

25. "So", she continued, "we will wait awhile for Big Media to work
its magic, because God forbid we should do something that is both popular and good for the people that we represent. If I stall this long enough so that it fails, then Limpballs and King Glenn and Weiner will get off my case for awhile".
