Ex-police officer admits role in cover-up of Louisiana bridge shooting
Source: CNN

A second former New Orleans police officer pleaded guilty Thursday in connection with police shootings of civilians on a Louisiana bridge in the days following Hurricane Katrina, authorities said.

Jeffrey Lehrmann, a former police detective who now works as a special agent for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge that he failed to report a cover-up in the investigation of the Danziger Bridge shootings in New Orleans, the Department of Justice said in a statement Thursday.

Lehrmann also admitted he helped compile a false report on the incidents, and was with others when they planted a gun as part of the cover-up, according to court documents.

Last month, former police Lt. Michael Lohman pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in connection with the cover-up.

Two civilians were killed and four others wounded in the shootings on September 4, 2005, six days after Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast.

2. "could get up to 3 yrs in prison"???
"no evidence of malice"???
REALLY???
These guys need to be investigated to the nth degree..& ALL involved need to face severe consequences. After being traumatised by the storm & the levee breaks, the CITIZENS were further traumatised by those sworn to SERVE, & PROTECT..& were MURDERED.

Y'know, I am sick of the corruption & CRIMINAL behavior by PEACE Officers & "officials". There are GOOOD People who need jobs, who long to make a positive difference in OUR Communities, who would SERVE honorably, but creeps are in these positions & we ALL suffer because of it.

God Bless NOLA.
Bless us ALL, without exception.

3. What's the back story here? Who kept this alive? It took almost 5 years,
someone was trying to kill the story, but someone must have kept it alive.

4. The families did not give up.
The Bartholomews and the Madisons stayed on the case.

When Judge Bigelow threw out the charges http://the-discourses.blogspot.com/2008/08/getting-away-with-murder.html, the family pursued the case further.

"And for this we have a retiring judge who made his living as a prosecuting attorney to thank. To Mr. Bigelow, murdering people is OK, so long as you are a police officer. There can be no other conclusion, especially when one considers his past record of rulings in favor of law enforcement against defendants in coercive settings. It is remarkable how pro-police judges start writing and sounding like members of the ACLU when it is one of their own. In both cases to which the killer cops stood charged, the victims were perfectly blameless (one of the victims was disabled, unarmed, and shot in the back). Of course, none of them look like Mr. Bigelow or lived in his neighborhood. Indeed, the victims were black, a group Bigelow enjoys making remarks about ON THE BENCH.

When Bigelow is not making racially charged remarks or dropping charges against murderous police officers, he likes to skim court fine money (on goddess knows what). A real New Orleans politician."

9. Until "qualified immunity" is abolished,
law enforcement should not come to me for for sympathy.
