Reid's wife and daughter in car accident
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) - The wife and daughter of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have been taken to a Washington area hospital after being involved in a car accident.

"Today Senator Reid's wife, Landra, and daughter, Lana, were involved in an accident in which their vehicle was rear-ended. They are both being treated at a Washington-area hospital," Reid's office said in a statement Thursday afternoon.

Reid’s wife broke her back and neck and nose, and his daughter has a neck injury.
They do not have life threatening injuries but they are far from being okay.

13. Also depends on the speed of the crash, I assume...
...I've been rear-ended in three different accidents, and with hindsight, I can say (after medical examinations at the time) that the majority of health issues I faced were muscle tension brought on by anger over being rear-ended. I tensed up like a coiled spring, and when you do that, the minute you relax, you hurt. I had no actual "injuries" in strict medical terms but hurt like hell, especially in the neck and shoulders.

Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 05:51 PM by dencol
At least they have access to insurance so they can be treated for their injuries. After being taken to the ER under the same circumstances, they told me my injuries were not life-threatening, so they discharged me. I haven't been able to get treatment because the liable party's insurance refuses to pay after I was rear-ended.

But in a morbid way I am somewhat grateful that God, Fate, Karma, Life or {insert your favorite supreme being here} has shown him what he's really fighting for in the health care arena. I think his primary concern should be with the health of his wife and child just like any other person with a family. But I also hope there is a nagging lil voice coming from that dark cloud following him saying, My God what if you didn't have insurance? How would you pay for all this? I just wish Harry Reid Wisdom. Not any kind of harm.

Edited on Fri Mar-12-10 10:06 PM by dencol
Of course, I am bitter because it happened to me a couple of times. I was hit in 2003 and lost my career because of it, and therefore lost my insurance so I couldn't get the back surgery I needed. Then, within a few months of filing for bankruptcy, I was rear-ended while at a standstill on the highway. I was unable to work at my new job, so was forced to resign. I have no health insurance and can't even be treated for the injuries. Anybody opposed to getting care for all Americans deserves something like this to happen to them, so they can understand the importance of care. It sounds mean, but it would save a lot of lives.

On edit: This is a good example of why insurance cannot be tied to a job. When sick or injured, sometimes you can't work and loose your benefits.

30. Huh? His wife just suffered a broken neck, back and nose
His place is by her and his daughter, not at work.
Taking a" he can do nothing attitude "is a lame excuse for a serious flaw lurking somewhere within Reid's emotional make-up.
I'm truly appalled by his behavior.

Having gone through MULTIPLE surgeries, I would kick my husband ass if he didn't do his job and help push through healthcare reform (especially the public option). She is safe, medical folks are taking good care of her (and probably her friends and other family too. There are millions of Americans depending on him right now and he needs to keep that in mind, too.

Pigs. There are some expressing decent sentiments, but most are pleased about it. Couldn't resist confirming what I knew would be true. I don't think DU would enjoy such serious injuries to any Republican senator's wife and daughter. In fact, I know it.

Those enjoying it are hereby consigned to the lowest rings of hell.

40. See what kind of record the truck driver had.

Vehicular executions are less suspect than others. Nascar does it every couple of years or so. In fact look into the career of the truck driver alleged in hitting the Senator's family car. See if he was a pretty good race driver once. Check into whether or if he had gambling or drug debts. Leveraged by black operations to pull off the hit.

As Roosevelt said: "Nothing happens in this town by accident"

43. Difficult to prove one way or another
One hint is that if it were a real hit the CIA would have to stymie any kind of serious investigation.

If the truck driver gets off with just a wrist slapper? Then he was a tool.

Patsies have been planted all over the place. Oswald and Sirhan just being the most obvious ones. Could well be a Manchurian Candidate tried to whack the Reids and I'm am dead serious with the thought.

They hid the MK Ultra for decades. Who said they really stopped programming the subjects?

46. Crash leaves Reid's wife with broken neck, back
Source: MSNBC

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's wife and daughter were hospitalized Thursday — the wife with a broken back and neck — after their minivan was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck on an interstate highway in suburban Virginia, authorities said.

Reid's wife, Landra, 69, and the couple's daughter, Lana Barringer, 49, were taken by ambulance to Inova Fairfax hospital in Falls Church, Va. Neither woman's injuries appeared to be life-threatening, and the daughter was expected to be released from the hospital Thursday night, Reid aides said. Mrs. Reid was listed in serious condition, an aide said, but she was not expected to require surgery.

"Mrs. Reid has a broken nose, broken back and broken neck," Reid spokesman Jim Manley said in a statement. "Lana has a neck injury and facial lacerations. Both Mrs. Reid and Lana are conscious, can feel their extremities, and according to doctors their injuries are non-life threatening."
