Bosnia Court Indicts Serb For Srebrenica Massacre
By REUTERS
Published: March 13, 2010

SARAJEVO (Reuters) - Bosnia's state prosecutor on Saturday indicted a former Serb police commander suspected of taking part in the killing of thousands of Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995, Europe's worst massacre since World War Two.

Nedjo Ikonic, 45, has been in detention since his extradition to Bosnia in January from the United States, where he had been arrested on an international arrest warrant.

According to the indictment, Ikonic was a commander of a special police brigade operating within the Serb Republic interior ministry during the Bosnian 1992-95 war that claimed 100,000 lives.

"As the commander of the special police unit, Ikonic is charged with taking part in a joint criminal enterprise that aimed to kill men and boys from Srebrenica in July 1995," the office of the prosecutor Milorad Barasin said in a statement.

2. Sad Time
I was living in Europe during 1995 when a lot of this stuff was going on in Bosnia with the Serbs. Such a sad, sad time in our history, but unfortunately, it has happened in many other parts of the world as well. As much as we keep saying "Never Again", things like this will continue to happen as countries fail to get involved, choosing to let things play out. I remember seeing pictures of Bosnian men huddled in what were similar to concentration camps. Tragically, many of these men were killed or maimed by monsters from Serbia and in some cases Croatia. I'm sure Serbs and Croats had their share of tragedy, too. However, when you have people like Karadzic and Milosevic, staunch nationalists who were opposed to non-Serbs, it was a disaster waiting to happen and it did. Milosevic got his and I hope Karadzic is soon to suffer the same fate. Sadly, too many soldiers and others got away with rape, murder, etc. If there is a heaven or hell, hopefully they'll get their judgment day.
