Petraeus: 'Time Has Come' To Rethink Gay Policy

by The Associated Press

WASHINGTON March 16, 2010, 10:56 am ET

The four-star Army general who is managing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan says "the time has come" for the military to rethink its policy toward gays.

Gen. David Petraeus (peh-TRAY'-us) stopped short of saying whether he personally believed if the military's policy of "don't ask, don't tell" is outdated or unfair.

Instead, Petraeus told a Senate panel Tuesday that he wants to see the results of an internal study ordered by Defense Secretary Robert Gates before any changes are made. He said he wants to know if allowing gays to serve openly might hurt recruiting and retention, or the military's ability to fight.

6. It's going to take a lot to restore the Republican brand.
I have little doubt that this is a viable route for them.

Would be nice(?) if Obama gave up his New Dem rebranding effort. New Dem is Old School Republican and I could say worse but that might lead to some confusion.

11. Re: recruiting. By and large, sexual orientation is a non-issue for 18-25's
there are plenty of exceptions, but most honestly don't care. And this is true even for conservative areas like the one I live in.
