Health care foes 11 votes shy of defeating bill
Source: CNN

Washington (CNN) -- Five more House Democrats said Tuesday that they will vote against Senate health care legislation, which puts opponents of reform just 11 votes shy of the 216 needed to prevent President Obama from scoring a major victory on his top domestic priority.

I really hope that's wrong. This is making me nervous.

6. In McIntyre's district it would be better for Mike if Obama didn't campaign for him
The chairman of the Robeson County (NC) Democratic Party campaigned for every downticket Dem...plus John McCain.

4. 11 votes is not very close, IMO.
If it were within 5, then I'd start to worry.

5. CNN has no idea how to whip count..
No's can become Yes's when your in the President's party and he/she needs your vote.

Pelosi will get 216 votes. Period. She is having to pull out all the stops to do it (with help from Obama), but it will get done. The President even had to give Kucinich a plane ride and some face time to get his vote. Pelosi and the President are having to pull out all the stops, they've gone all in and they simply can't and won't fail. To not get the votes would be such a disaster to the Democratic party that there is simply no way with the majorities we have that the party will allow HCR to go down to defeat.

Come early next week, Health Care Reform will be a reality and we will have the framework for additional improvements year after year.

This is really only the first step. Anyone seriously paying attention should know that. It doesn't end here, and yes, a public option is something that is likely to be added within several years. That too will end up being a huge fight, but the writing is on the wall.

8. Well, you can chose not to believe that...
...I respect that.

Still, this particular bill will pass. Pelosi will get 216 votes.

9. I hope the ones who are discounting this are right
I want the bill to pass. I'm sure CNN wants to see Obama fail, but I don't know if they're letting that interfere with their count or if it's realistic.

11. That's an interesting way to frame an 11 vote victory for Obama.
CNN's allegiances are painfully clear, once again....

13. I noticed that, too. CNN is FOX, but with lower ratings. That's gotta hurt.

14. I'm against the bill, but you pointed out a great example of media bias
If it passes, Obama will have a victory. I'll get fines, but Obama will have a victory.

18. Obama doesn't have a margin of victory yet.
Whether or not the reporter is biased, the reporting is accurate.

The most recent whip count I've seen is 190 Yes, 206 No, with the rest still not firm. If you count the 'undecideds' in the column in which they are said to be leaning, it's still 205 Yes, 209 No.

It's not an 11 vote victory.

19. CNN is such a bag of useless information.
The headline in any normal country with real journalist doing the news would be "Democrats Have 219 Votes to Pass Health Care Reform - Three More Than needed".

Instead we get right wing lies and manipulation from a Fox wanna-be CNN.

You know what's coming next? When HCR passes CNN's headline will be: "Health Care Reform Nearly Failed to Pass the House".
