Hawaii Mulls Law to Ignore Obama 'Birthers'
Source: ABC News

Birthers beware: Hawaii may start ignoring your repeated requests for proof that President Barack Obama was born here.

As the state continues to receive e-mails seeking Obama's birth certificate, the state House Judiciary Committee heard a bill Tuesday permitting government officials to ignore people who won't give up.

"Sometimes we may be dealing with a cohort of people who believe lack of evidence is evidence of a conspiracy," said Lorrin Kim, chief of the Hawaii Department of Health's Office of Planning, Policy and Program Development.

-----

But the state still gets between 10 and 20 e-mails seeking verification of Obama's birth each week, most of them from outside Hawaii, Kim said Tuesday.

A few of these requesters continue to pepper the Health Department with the same letters seeking the same information, even after they're told state law bars release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest. Responding wastes time and money, Kim said.

1. Good
The state agencies could answer them one time or fifty and the birthers would still be harassing them.

25. It makes sense to normal people, but the conspiracy theory loving
idiots the bill is targeting will just use it to "prove" that the government has something to hide. They'll probably become even more obnoxious and relentless than ever.

2. This is nothing more than government waste dealing with idiots like this
It's clear that some of these birthers have some mental issues that prevent them from getting a grip on reality. Sure it was a fun tree to bark up at; perhaps if Obama was a republican we might have even played that card for a few weeks around or after the election. But even we progressives can get a clue after awhile.

3. It's a mental Illness
in our Condo Association, we have people who can't take no for an answer, either.

One resident had water damage from a roof leak, but wanted far more than a repair--like a whole new wood floor, when our standard is carpet over subfloor.

She refused our settlement check which was more than generous to effect repairs, deluged us with email and letters and phone calls and builders' estimates and we said finally, sue us. Reason doesn't work in gagaland.

4. Backfire
permitting government officials to ignore people who won't give up...

with my luck, any law put in effect to fight someone else would come back to bite me...

I don't think government officials should ignore people who won't give up. I'm trying to learn to be someone who won't give up. I don't want government officials to ignore me.

6. This law is the equivalent of laws regarding vexatious litigants. Having been
the last victim of one of THOSE, I can get behind this law. They do it to harrass, and they can be forced to stop if they persist in their misconduct.

9. so you think every citicen should be able to personally see proof the prez was born here?
you think that is a reasonable request, even after it has been proven to the satisfaction of the federal gov't?

and you're still caught up on the "statement of live birth" thing?

15. He provided exactly what was needed.
The fact is that the few right-wing racist lunatics who are doggedly going after whatever it is they're going after will *never* accept *anything* that Obama could ever release. If we could travel back in time and physically take them to Hawaii to watch Obama being born, they would still not believe it.

The reason is because it's not about the birth certificate, it never has been. It's about racists who cannot stand that a black man is President of the United States and will do anything to try to discredit him.

12. there is a difference between persistence and nuisance
these people are engaging in frivolous activity based on the fact that they can't stand that a black man is sitting in the oval office... nothing more.

7. I know a place where something like this
would be of even greater value: the state of Arizona. Something needs to be done there with respect to Joe Arpaio--like a bad child, he depends on the terror he creates to feel empowered. I'm not sure it would work out too much, though, as like the birthers, he's completely rabid.

23. Better yet, for each subsequent request in a calendar month, double the fee
Start with a dollar; second request, two dollars; third request, four dollars; fifth, eight dollars.

You get the drift...

14. Non Reality based fools
Let's see. These delusional idiots cannot accept documentary proof, backed by newspapers published at the time!, attesting to his birth in Hawaii, but can accept such non sense as hi8s being born in Kenya, where there is no evidence whatsoever.

People need to start simply ignoring and laughing at these people until they catch on that they simply modern day flat earthers.

18. "Attorney Peter Fritz" is a Class A-1 douchebag
Attorney Peter Fritz asked why the state would pass a law punishing repetitive requests for open records. Instead, the state could simply say it would only answer each person's question once.

Guess what? I once attended a legislative hearing with the said Peter Fritz. In fact, he is among the reasons I'm now posting from CA: he and several others testified against my former employers at this hearing, spreading ludicrous claims and disinformation for the better part of four hours -- all because a friend of Fritz's had a personal vendetta against my boss. :grr: :banghead: :nuke:

So imagine my utter surprise when I come in here and see Fritz defending the birfers. :sarcasm:

20. Illustrates a rule in conservative activism
No matter how wrong, no matter how stupid, if you keep saying (or in this case doing) something enough times, it becomes true. I would say at some of these "birthers" actually believe him to be a born Kenyan. The rest know this is a load of crap, and keep sounding the drum beat for their own political gain.

I also think that, while a lot of the issue these people have is racism, but it is also a tactic of conservatives to regain power. They failed to attract voters to their odius agenda, and so they create these little side issues to manually take down the leader. I think this is quite related to the Clinton BJ issue. They could not topple him in an election, or find something serious to charge him with, so they cornered him into lying about a BJ to bring him down. They failed abysmally, and will fail with President Obama on this absurd "birth" issue.

21. Of course . . .
. . . the birthers will cite this as circumstantial evidence of a conspiracy. But that's okay -- if not this, then something else. It'll be worth it just to deliver the message of how ignored they are.

27. Many states do not give out birth info unless you are the person in question or a relative.
That's a good rule.
